Bac Giang draws on human resources for high-achievement sports from grassroots competitions
BAC GIANG- Bac Giang province is evaluated to have developed sport movements when the local government and its competent agencies have paid continuous attention to providing good mechanism and policies and organizing many tournaments and competitions to hunt talents for high-achievement sports.
Currently, the provincial Center for Sport Training and Competition is training about 250 athletes in 15 sport games, many of them are of Bac Giang strength like chess, track and field, badminton, wrestling, martial art and shuttlecock kicking.

Most of these athletes were selected from the sport movements. In addition, the gifted classes in the districts, town and city produced many athletes for the provincial competition teams.
According to Nguyen Van Oanh, Head of the sports management division under the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the department organizes from 18 to 20 provincial-level sport tournaments and collaborate with related departments, agencies and units to organize 25 to 50 competitions each year.
Tan Yen district is evaluated the most outstanding among 10 districts, town and city, which contributed a large number of high-achievement athletes for the provincial teams through the grassroots competitions.
The powerful sports like martial art, track and field, shuttlecock kicking and wrestling have been paid due attention by the district to compete at provincial-level competitions.
According to Nguyen Van Thiem, Director of the Culture, Information and Sports Center of Tan Yen district, this unit regularly collaborates with related agencies to host from 13 to 15 district-level sport events annually.
Besides, the center runs nearly 20 sport talent classes in summer occasion and selected qualified and experienced coaches to nurture the athletes. The aesthetes winning high achievements are timely praised and rewarded.
Apart from Tan Yen, other localities also pay attention to its strong sports, particularly Lang Giang district (badminton and track and field), Hiep Hoa district (wrestling and martial art), Yen Dung district (swimming and table tennis), Son Dong district (rod pushing and tug of war), Bac Giang city (badminton, chess, shuttlecock kicking and football).
In recent years, the localities have contributed hundreds of athletes to provincial talent classes and youth competition teams. Many of whom bagged honourable medals in domestic and international arenas.
Some prominent athletes are Nguyen Thi Oanh and Pham Tien San (track and field), Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (wushu), Tran Thi Phuong Thuy, Pham Van Hai and Than Van Anh (badminton), Doan Van Anh and Luong Hoang Tu Linh (chess), Phung Manh Tu (shuttlecock kicking), Phung Bao Quyen (Chinese chess) and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (wrestling).
