The expected inner city area will consist of all 16 commune-level administrative units of Bac Giang city (including 10 existing wards and 6 ward-to-be areas of Dinh Tri, Tan My, Dong Son, Tan Tien, Song Mai, Song Khe communes) and 8 commune-level administrative units of Yen Dung district (Nham Bien town and Tan An town is expected to merge with Lao Ho commune; communes of Noi Hoang, Tien Phong, Tan Lieu, Huong Gian, Canh Thuy).

Recently, Bac Giang city has focused on implementing Resolution No. 156-NQ/TU dated August 10, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on the construction and development of Bac Giang City in the period of 2021-2030, Resolution No. 233-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee on the policy of rearranging district-level administrative units and urban development in Bac Giang province in the period of 2022-2025 (including the orientation of merging the entire administrative boundaries of Yen Dung district into Bac Giang city).

The recognition of second tier Bac Giang urban area (including Yen Dung district and Bac Giang city) is one of the important conditions for the locality to exploit its advantages, attract investment, boost socio-economic development and continue to implement the process of arranging and merging administrative units.
