(BGO) – More than 40 members including
officers at the cultural center, artisans, female singers and musicians from 10
districts and city in Bac Giang province participated in the course to teach Ca
tru (Ceremonial singing) held by the provincial
Center of Culture and Cinema on May 13.
During 10 days, the trainees are instructed by Meritorious Artist Quynh Mai, Artist Ba Chung and Thanh Liem (Bac Giang Cheo Theater) about the content, knowledge and practice to perform Ca tru.

Apart from the artisans, singers and musicians with at least 3 – 10 year experience, many young faces have participated in this course.
After completing the course, the officers at the cultural center and trainees will teach to other Ca tru lovers at their localities and propose the local authority to establish Ca tru clubs and art troops.
The event has been held for 10 consecutive years by the provincial Center of Culture and Cinema. Now, Bac Giang province has 7 Ca tru clubs with more than 100 singers and musicians coming from the districts and city.

The training courses aim at effectively implementing the provincial People’s Committee’s Project “Preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the ethnic minority groups in Bac Giang province for the period 2011 – 2020” as well as honoring Ca tru’s value, contributing to preserving the intangible cultural heritage value of humanity in the community.
It is the occasion for the artisans, singers and musicians to exchange the experience and talent in Ca tru performance.

Authorities and people of the northern province of Bac Giang have made great efforts to preserve and carry forwards the values of the art of Ca tru (ceremonial singing), aiming to removing the art from UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding.

On August 22, Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee Le
Anh Duong, Head of the Organization Board for the 10th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Quan
ho (love duet singing) and Ca tru (ceremonial singing) as the intangible culture
heritage of humanity as well as the second ceremony to bestow title of People’s
Artist and Meritorious artist in the field of intangible cultural heritage in
2019 chaired a meeting to finalize the instruction and implementation.
Bac Giang mobilizes resources to preserve, expand cultural atmosphere of Quan Ho and Ca Tru

(DCST) of Bac Giang province held a conference on 20 August themed “Preserving
and promoting Quan Ho (love duet singing) and Ca Tru (ceremonial singing) in Bac
Giang province” at the provincial Convention Center. This activity is included
in the sequence of events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Quan
Ho and Ca Tru recognised by UNESCO as the intangible cultural heritages of humanity.

(BGO) - "Ca tru (ceremonial
singing) is very difficult, only those who love it and perseveres can follow
this career. However, our club now gathers nearly 30 members”, Dang Thi Chan,
former head of the Ca tru Club of Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province,
excitedly told us.
