Bac Giang to celebrate 10th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Quan ho and Ca tru singing

(BGO) – On August 22, Vice Chairman of the Bac Giang provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong, Head of the Organization Board for the 10th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Quan ho (love duet singing) and Ca tru (ceremonial singing) as the intangible culture heritage of humanity as well as the second ceremony to bestow title of People’s Artist and Meritorious artist in the field of intangible cultural heritage in 2019 chaired a meeting to finalize the instruction and implementation.

At the meeting, leader of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DCST) reported the progress of preparation work for the celebration and awarding ceremony.

Accordingly, the Organization Board prepared the agenda, organizing plan, decision to establish the organization board and supporting group then submitted to the provincial People’s Committee (PPC) for approval while promptly implementing the relevant tasks.

The DCST also held a symposium themed “Preserving and promoting Quan ho folk singing and ceremonial singing in Bac Giang province” and visited to present the PPC’s gifts to the ancient Quan ho villages, Ca tru clubs and the people’s artisans in Noi Ninh cultural house in Ninh Son commune (Viet Yen district).

The 10th anniversary of UNESCO recognition of Quan ho and Ca tru as the intangible culture heritage of humanity and the second ceremony to bestow title of People’s Artist and Meritorious artist in the field of intangible cultural heritage in 2019 is scheduled on 8 pm at September 7, 2019 at the provincial Conventional Center, February 3 Square (Bac Giang city) and live broadcast on Bac Giang Radio & Television Station.

Apart from the ceremonial part, the event features many art performances to highlight the theme “Charming Quan ho and Ca tru melodies in Bac Giang land”, hence honoring the cultural space with deep traditional identities.

Concluding the meeting, PPC Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong urged the members of the Organization Board to closely cooperate in each stage of preparation, promptly implement the assigned tasks to ensure the proposed time.

The DCST received the recommendation to complete the agenda to submit to the PPC and before August 27 and the visual communication prior to September 6.

The art show will be shorten down, featuring delicately practiced performances under the event’ theme. The tasks of reception, accommodation and travel should be carefully prepared to show the local hospitality and friendship.

Ca tru singing in Phuong Hoang land
(BGO) - "Ca tru (ceremonial singing) is very difficult, only those who love it and perseveres can follow this career. However, our club now gathers nearly 30 members”, Dang Thi Chan, former head of the Ca tru Club of Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province, excitedly told us.
Festival fuels hope for young and talented Ca Tru practitioners
The curtain came down on the 2018 National Ca Tru (ceremonial singing) Festival in Ha Tinh province. The four-day festival attracted nearly 300 artists and instrumentalists from 13 cities and provinces across the country. With an increased number of young artisans, the festival has fuelled the hope for a younger and talented generation of Ca Tru practitioners.
Performance of Israel & Vietnam Folk Harmony to be held in Hanoi
The Israel & Vietnam Folk Harmony programme is scheduled to take place at the Youth Theatre in Hanoi on August 25. 
Hue folk singing to be taught at school
The Culture and Sports Department in Hue city, the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, has signed an agreement to coordinate with the city’s Education and Training Department to add Ca Hue (Hue folk singing) to the academic curriculum in local schools.
Colouring book features Dong Ho folk paintings
The Hanoi Ceramic Museum and The Gioi Publishers on July 31 introduced to the public a book on Dong Ho folk paintings.
