Bac Giang: Over 600 people donate bloods at “Red Journey” Programme

(BGO) – The seventh “Red Journey” Programme 2020 and Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD) Festival themed “Affectionate Pink Drop” on July 19 were jointly held at the Bac Giang provincial Labour Culture Building by the provincial Steering Committee for VBD, Organization Board of National Red Journey and National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion.

2020 is the 7th consecutive year Bac Giang province has held “Red Journey” Programme and the 5th consecutive year the province has been selected by the National Steering Committee for VBD and Organization Board of “National Red Journey” to launch the event.

“Red Journey” is a practical and meaningful programme to help recover the blood shortage across the nation on summer occasion, encourage the people of all strata to join the movement. In 2020, the event has been launched at 42 provinces and cities from June 8 to August 2, 2020 with the target to call for donation of 50,000 blood units at least.

Since 2005, Bac Giang province has received more than 150,000 blood units with higher and higher result which qualifies and exceeds the target assigned by the Center.

Right after the opening ceremony, the VBD Festival themed “Affectionate Pink Drop 2020 in Bac Giang province was organized with more than 600 blood donors. As the result, 573 blood units were donated in the morning of July 19. The province also strives to receive 1,500 blood units within the “Red Journey” Programme.

At the same day, the provincial leaders, Department of Health, Red Cross Society and Organization Board of Central Red Journey Programme visited and presented gifts to 20 difficult patients under treatment at Bac Giang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, each worth 1 million VND.

One hundred outstanding Vietnamese blood donors will be honoured in a series of events from June 9-11 to celebrate World Blood Donor Day (June 14).
