Bac Giang province honors athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh

(BGO) – The Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee in Bac Giang province Le Anh Duong has recently held a meeting in Bac Giang city to honor the track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh.

Oanh was born in 1995 in Nhuan village, My Ha commune (Lang Giang district). The Bac Giang provincial athlete was called to the Vietnam national track and field team to compete at the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games).

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong presents the Certificate of Merit bestowed by the provincial People’s Committee to athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh.

At the event, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh won 3 gold medals in such categories of 1500 meter, 5000 meter run and 3000 meter steeplechase, especially in two later events, she won gold medals at the same day as well as broke the SEA Games’ record with the achievement of 10 minutes 2 milliseconds at the 3000 meter steeplechase.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong congratulated and praised Oanh’s great effort and contribution; the due attention and training from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (DoCST), the provincial Center of Sports Training and Competition (CSTC) as well as the support of the departments, sectors and enterprises to provide timely encouragement and reward.

The outstanding athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh is now among the most excellent athletes in Vietnam. Thanks to the high determination and extraordinary fortitude, she brought the glory to the provincial and national sports sector.

The provincial leader expected Oanh will continue training toward Olympiad standard while assigning the DoCST and CSTC to facilitate and foster Oanh to meet the condition and physical state to join the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
