According to the master plan, the region spans the entire mainland territory of 14 provinces: Bac Giang, Cao Bang, Dien Bien, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Hoa Binh, Lang Son, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, which are identified as development drivers.

The region includes three sub-regions, five economic corridors, three development belts and one motivational area.

In the sub-region development orientation, Bac Giang is located in the northeastern sub-region with Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Lang Son and Cao Bang. The plan sets to build Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen into industrial - urban - service, education and health centers of the sub-region and the region. Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen and Lang Son will be the growth poles of the sub-region.

Bac Giang, along with Thai Nguyen and Phu Tho, are set to become high-standard mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering hubs. Of them, Bac Giang will be developed into a center for semiconductor production and supporting industries.

Bac Giang is also one of the localities identified to develop key fruit and specialty tree areas; livestock and poultry farming, and clusters of fruit, vegetable and agricultural product processing industries.

According to the master plan, five economic corridors of the region are planned, with Bac Giang located in the Lang Son - Bac Giang - Hanoi Economic Corridor connecting the northeastern sub-region with Hanoi capital, gateway ports, the Red River Delta, and Nanning city in southeastern China.

Regarding the development orientation of the belts, Bac Giang lies in the urban - industrial - service belt, which is the growth driver of the whole region, linking the industrial - urban - service centers of the region with Hanoi.

About the urban system building orientation, Bac Giang city is determined to be a driving force and an important economic center of the region; a green, smart, modern and civilized urban area; a trade, logistics and goods transit center connecting important strategic defence-security areas and the Hanoi - Hai Phong urban area.

Bac Giang maintains traditional markets, expands exports in 2024 lychee season
