Bac Giang’s fruits are smoothly consumed at high price
BAC GIANG - Currently, localities in Bac Giang province are focusing on harvesting and consuming various fruits such as oranges, grapefruits, tangerines, guavas and apples to serve the 2025 Tet market. This year's fruit output decreased, but consumption is favorable with high selling prices, bringing big income to farmers.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD), the impact of storm No. 3 and the post-storm circulation damaged a number of crops. The productivity and output of most fruit trees decreased of which oranges, grapefruits, and apples decreased by 17-40% compared to the previous crop.

However, for many gardeners, this crop is still highly effective thanks to the concentrated cultivation to improve the product quality together with a favorable consumption market and stable prices.
Chu township and Luc Ngan district are the two localities with the largest orange and grapefruit growing areas in the province with a total of about 4,100 hectares and estimated output of 33,700 tonnes of fruits (equal to 78.7% compared to the previous crop), of which Chu township grows more than 2,300 hectares and estimated output of 23,000 tonnes.
The consumption of products take place from the beginning of October 2024 and is expected to be completed before Lunar New Year holiday. Few areas will be sold after Tet.
Local farmers have basically completed harvesting green-skinned grapefruit, yellow flesh oranges, early-ripening grapefruit. Other fruits like sweet oranges, Suu grapefruit, royal red grapefruit, sweet grapefruit, shaped grapefruit... are being urgently harvested. Many traders have ordered by garden at high prices right from the beginning of the season.
At this time, taking advantage of favorable weather, local households are urgently harvesting the fruits to sell during Tet occasion. In addition to consuming products on traditional channels, owners of many gardens have applied online sales methods. Some cooperatives and households have actively put their products on e-commerce platforms, supermarket and convenience store systems.
With the motto of "bringing the market to the garden", "welcoming guests home", businesses, cooperatives and gardeners in Chu township and Luc Ngan district have accelerated the linkage to bring tourists to visit, experience and buy fruit products right in the garden.
According to statistics from professional agencies, the Orange and Grapefruit Fair and Luc Ngan Tourism Week (taking place in late 2024) attracted more than 50,000 tourists, consuming more than 100,000 grapefruits and more than 100 tonnes of oranges.
While the growing areas of oranges and grapefruits are increasingly narrowed, the jujube area in Luc Ngan tends to increase. In 2024, the whole district developed more than 1,100 hectares of jujube (an increase of nearly 500 hectares compared to 2023), mostly in the communes and towns of Giap Son, Phu Nhuan, Phi Dien, Bien Dong...

Although the output hits only 57% compared to the previous crop, the price of jujubes is doubling, even tripling at times, so many households are very excited.
The statistics from the DARD proved that the whole province has harvested about 27,000 tonnes of grapefruits (reaching 72%); about 18,000 tonnes of oranges (reaching 74.7%) and about 3,500 tonnes of jujubes (reaching 23.3%).
Compared to the same period last year, the average price of oranges, grapefruits and jujubes has increased by 10-15,000 VND per kg. In particular, unique and high-quality fruits such as royal red grapefruit, shaped grapefruit; grapefruits and oranges that meet OCOP standards are sold out.
In addition, local farmers in the province are harvesting other fruits like bananas, custard apples and guavas among others. All enjoy higher selling prices than every year.
