After the Covid-19 situation was slowed down, many grassroots-level sport competitions have received much attention of the mass of people.
Particularly, the 1st Northern soft Volleyball Tournament held in Bac Giang attracted 700 athletes of 54 teams from 12 provinces and cities in the north including 20 teams from Bac Giang. A large number of supporters came to cheer for their teams.

The provincial traditional sports festival for the elderly attracted more than 400 athletes competing 4 games including badminton, table tennis and constitutional fitness.
Besides, the province’s athletes attended 4 national grassroots sports games and won 28 medals.
Growing from the grassroots sports movements, the key sports of Bac Giang such as badminton, shuttlecock kicking, wrestling, marital art, track and field and chess have won good ranks at the high-achievement playgrounds.

Due to impact of Covid-19 pandemic since early this year, the athletes could not attend international championships. Bac Giang has hosted 6 national sports competitions including the National Youth Chinese Chess Championship, National Badminton Tournament, National Youth Volleyball League, National Traditional Wrestling Championship, National Badminton League and National Team Chess Tournament.
In 2020, Bac Giang’s athletes attended 41 domestic competitions winning 237 medals of all types including 58 gold, 69 silver and 110 bronze medals in which 109 athletes have been ranked. |
Thanks to these events, some young athletes proved themselves. Particularly, badminton player Tran Thi Phuong Thuy is bridging the gap left by athlete Vu Thi Trang when she was only narrowly defeated by a very strong opponent Nguyen Thuy Linh (from Dong Nai) at the final match.
This year, Bac Giang sports teams took part in 41 domestic competitions bagging 237 medals including 58 gold, 69 silver and 110 bronze medals, down 21 prizes compared to the same period last year but increasing 8 gold medals. The “golden girl” Nguyen Thi Oanh is considered the most successful athlete with convincing impression when winning 4 gold medals at the national track and field championships. Specially, she even won gold medal at the 10,000-metre category, which was not her strong suit with 34 minutes, 8.54 seconds breaking Doan Nu Truc Van’s record 17 years ago.
According to Nguyen Trong Bac, Vice Director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the achievements of Bac Giang’s sports demonstrated great efforts of the staffs, coaches and athletes during this year because the athletes had to cancel practicing and competing due to the pandemic. Many big sport events such as the 9th provincial sports festival and SEA Games 31 will take place in 2021; hence, the sport sector needs to highly concentrate on athlete training and coaching while dividing them into groups for development priority.
Besides, it needs to attach importance to providing political, ideological and ethic education to the coaches and athletes so that they will gain outstanding results in competition and have good virtue in life.
