Bac Giang sports ready for upcoming tournaments

Updated: 20:00, 24/12/2021
(BGO) - In 2021, due to complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, many international, regional and national sports tournaments had to be suspended and training was interrupted. Overcoming difficulties, the coaches and athletes Bac Giang province are trying their best to practice and strive for the best results in the 2022 tournaments.

Improving physical strength, maintaining competition performance

These days, at the old provincial Stadium on Nghia Long street (Bac Giang city), members of the provincial wrestling team are practicing with high intensity.

With sweaty face and shirt, wrestler Nguyen Van Tuyen (born in 2003) in Kham Lang commune (Luc Nam district), who won many gold medals in national youth wrestling tournaments, shared that in May and June 2021, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out strongly in Bac Giang, more than 30 members of the wrestling team practiced at home with jogging and push-up exercises to improve fitness.

According to wrestling coach Le Thanh Luyen from the provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, since August 2021, athletes practice three shifts every day (morning, afternoon, evening), each shift from 2.5 - 3 hours. In addition to technique, wrestlers constantly practice endurance improvement exercises.

In the fourth wave of the outbreak, the new provincial Stadium in the southern urban area (Bac Giang city) was used as a field hospital for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

To deal with this difficulty, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism directed moving to other locations such as the old Stadium, the practice building at the department and the practice room at the provincial Sports Training and Competition Center.

Determined to achieve high results

Bui Ngoc Anh, Director of the provincial Sports Training and Competition Center, said that although the physical training facilities are limited, the Covid-19 epidemic still poses risk of outbreak, and there are few opportunities to attend competitions, both coaches and athletes have patiently spent a lot of time practicing to maintain physical strength and sharpen skills to earn the highest achievements.

Along with training, the management units have paid much attention to the prevention and control of the Covid-19 epidemic to ensure the health of athletes. The training sessions are divided into many shifts during the day (morning, afternoon and evening). Athletes’ daily activities are strictly inspected and monitored.

At the 2022 National Sports Games, Bac Giang strives to win about 30 medals of all kinds, including at least 10 gold medals, ranking among the top 20 provinces and cities nationwide with the highest achievements.

Athletes must strictly adhere to the "5K" regulation and regularly have samples taken for SARS-CoV-2 testing. During the training period, they should not move to epidemic-hit and high-risk areas.

Sports teams in districts and Bac Giang city also took advantage of this opportunity to practice to compete in the remaining sports of the provincial Sports Games 2022 and movement tournaments.

In 2021, regarding high-performance sports, Bac Giang province participated in nearly 20 out of 64 national tournaments, winning about 50 medals, including more than 10 gold medals. It also joined four national mass sports tournaments (stick pushing and tug of war; badminton for middle-aged players; badminton; and table tennis), earning 39 medals of all kinds, including 18 gold , 9 silver and 12 bronze medals. The Bac Giang provincial Sports Games 2021 featured 8 out of 15 sports. When the epidemic broke out strongly across the country, all tournaments had to be suspended.

In 2022, Bac Giang is expected to participate in 47 national and 13 international tournaments and 5 backup ones, with the target of winning 160-180 medals of all kinds, including 44-46 gold medals.

According to Nguyen Trong Bac, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the sports of local strength such as wrestling, shuttlecock kicking, athletics, badminton and chess are prioritized to participate in tournaments, expecting to win many medals...

With the serious, persistent, hard-working, responsible and safe training spirit, coaches and athletes in Bac Giang are working hard and determined to get the best results in tournaments taking place in 2022
