At the construction site of Tran Quang Khai road in Song Mai commune.

Tran Quang Khai road runs from the resettlement area of the Nitrogenous Fertilizer Factory (through the residential areas of Hau, Huong, Cung and Nhuong 1, in Tho Xuong ward) to Hoang Hoa Tham ward (through the villages of Phu Gia, Thuong Tu, An Phu and Phuc Be in Song Mai commune). It is 1.59 km long and 15-21m wide (up to each section). The bridge spanning over Thuong River is 364.8 m long. The construction also covers routes connecting residential areas, along with sewerage and lighting systems.

The construction began late January 2018 when the Tet holiday was approaching. After the festival, relevant units mobilized human resources and construction means to build the road. About 30 officials, workers and 20 construction machines such as excavator, road-rollers, bulldozer and truck, have been working continuously from the beginning of March.

Under the decision for approving construction drawing and estimate for the construction of Tran Quang Khai road (including road and bridge) under Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Corridor Towns Development project, the total cost estimate of the project is 237.5 billion VND sourced from loans of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the State Budget and the city’s budget. This is Group B project – grade II traffic work.

Tran Van Hanh, deputy head of the team, said a joint venture between the Van Cuong Construction United Co., Ltd. and Hanoi Investment and Construction JSC No. 1 takes charge of the work.

The contractor has zoned out more than 800m of land leading to the bridge, comprising the area to both sides of Tran Quang Khai Street in Tho Xuong ward and the area linking with Hoang Hoa Tham Street in Song Mai commune.

According to the Management Board of Construction Investment Projects No. 2 in Bac Giang city, the land clearance work took place smoothly, receiving the support of locals.

Than Thi Thu Thuy, Secretary of the Tho Xuong Party Committee said the cleared land belongs to Huong residential area. The small area belonging to Cung Nhuong 1 is low-lying land that is unsuitable for cultivation. Therefore, the land reclamation has not affected many locals’ production and daily life.

On contrary, they are excited when hearing information about the construction of the bridge, which will replace boat traveling.

There will be also a flyover connecting Tran Quang Khai Street with the belt road in the northeastern part of Bac Giang city.

According to Do Huy Hoang, Deputy Director of the Management Board of the Construction Investment Projects No. 2, this is a key project of the city aiming at expanding the transport network, and gradually improving the infrastructure system.

It will help create momentum for developing and expanding urban areas, boosting business, commercial and service development, and tapping tourism potential, thus making it easier for urban infrastructure development in suburb areas and contributing to the locality’s comprehensive socio-economic development.

In the regional scale, once completed, the project will help improve and expand transport network, promote economic links among cities and advantages in the northeast region, thus facilitating cross-border trade and enhance the involvement of the private sector.

As scheduled, the project will be implemented in three years. However, representatives of the contractor said with the high concentration in direction, the consensus of officials and people of the city, along with if the weather is favorable and the disbursement is smooth, the project may be completed one year ahead of the schedule.

In order to ensure the progress and quality of the work, the project’s Management Board will regularly inspect and supervise the construction quality. It will also focus on directing and urging the contractor to mobilize sufficient human resources, machines and equipment for implementing the project.

It will also take initiative in coordinating with design and supervision consultancy units, and concerned units to promptly remove difficulties in the construction process.

On March 21, the provincial People’s Committee sent Official Document No. 826/UBND-NN to the Directorate for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on consultations for the construction plan of the Ben Huong bridge project.

After the involved parties reach the agreement, the Management Board will examine the detailed construction plan outlined by the contractor before implementing the project to ensure safety in the dike system surrounding Thuong River in the rainy season.
