Class for special children
The provincial Rehabilitation Hospital is in charge of the project’s activities from 2018 with 35 students including children with intellectual and physical disabilities in three communes: An Chau, An Lap and Duong Huu. The project aims to build a home care system for disabled children and those with intellectual disabilities who are unable to attend school.

Participating in this project, 30 intervention teachers who are communal health workers, preschool teachers and parents are equipped by doctors from the provincial Rehabilitation Hospital with skills to enhance the language, communication, cognition and movement function of the children.
Based on their obtained knowledge, this team will develop an appropriate intervention plan for each student. Even at the family, the children are also cared well, get used to the learning environment, and gradually recover and integrate into the community.
Recently, the provincial Rehabilitation Hospital organized an extra-curricular session for students of this special class at the Xuong Giang Historic Relic Site and the Hoang Hoa Tham Park (Bac Giang city).
Here, the children were introduced to relics and artifacts on display at the memorial house. In addition, they also experienced many movement games. Despite facing difficulties in walking because of a disabled leg, Dinh Van Quynh, 11, from An Lap commune was still very excited to join the games.

Watching his 9-year-old son suffering from cerebral palsy, Bui Van Hai from Duong Huu commune said: “Before, I had to go to work to earn a living, so I often let him stay alone and locked the gate. In the evening, I talked little with him because he was active and usually ran around. Since I joined the special class and was instructed by the doctors on how to care for children with disabilities and mental retardation, I have known how to teach and play with my child. Now he knows how to color paintings and listen to his parents more”.
Not only training the community intervention teachers and supporting children, the project also presents books, notebooks, drawing papers and crayons to children.
Those who participated in the special class have had clear progress. From now until the end of the year, the provincial Rehabilitation Hospital will continue to organize family intervention sessions to increase the children's integration ability.
