Continue infrastructure investment, improving people’s living standards in disadvantaged areas

Updated: 17:24, 30/05/2019
(BGO)- On 29 May, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Anh Duong and the leader of the provincial Committee for Ethnic Affairs checked on the constructions invested under the Resolution No 12/2018/NQ-HDND by the provincial People’s Council on supporting policies for the most disadvantaged villages of the province in 2 communes of Giao Liem and Phuc Thang, Son Dong district.

Both of these communes have the poverty rate of over 40 percent, low rainfall and lack of water supply for production due to the incomplete irrigation system. Local people mainly live on forestation and small-scale livestock while the tiny fruit growing area brings about low economic efficiency.

Most of inter-communal roads are deteriorated. Besides, hardening the inter-village roads faces obstacles due to large area, sparse inhabitants and huge investment.

Particularly, people in Giao Liem commune face traffic difficulties in travelling and trading. In rainy season, this commune is often isolated by many streams and low-water bridges. With the fund from the Resolution No 12 and local counter fund, Giao Liem commune spent some 1.9 billion VND (81,127 USD) to build Dong Lua low-water bridge and the concrete road in Rem hamlet.

Phuc Thang commune is allocated 1.5 billion VND (64,041 USD) under the Resolution No 12 to improve Goc Xoan low-water bridge by 2020.

Le Anh Duong highly appreciated the great efforts by the party committee, government and people of the two communes in implementing the socio-economic development tasks of the localities; thereby the annual poverty rate decreases from 4 to 5 percent exceeding the set targets.

In order to gradually surmount difficulties, complete rural infrastructure and improve the people’s living standards, he requested the two communes to work out appropriate construction plans and speed up the construction progress of the funded projects under the Resolution No 12.

Besides, leaders of the two communes should organize field visits to learn experiences from other localities. They need to focus on restructuring of suitable crops to improve economic efficiency.

For Phuc Thang commune, the provincial Vice Chairman expected the authorities and local people to fulfil the tasks of protecting the watershed forests and aquatic resources, effectively exploiting economic forests, promoting its strengths and gradually improving the people’s quality of life.
