Creative idea to establish food supply – demand linkage group amid Covid-19 pandemic

Updated: 21:40, 17/05/2021
(BGO) - Vietnamese people always show great solidarity and alliance of compassion in difficult periods of natural disasters and Covid-19 pandemic. However, inconsistent assistance may cause redundancy in some places and still shortage in others. Director of Bagico Joint Stock Company (Bagico) Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuc suggested to establish food supply – demand linkage group in Viet Yen district.

She considered that though the philanthropists are willing to donate every thing they have, the receivers sometimes do not need these materials. So, we should base on the actual demand and suitable condition.

In hot days, vegetable is very important for daily meals. Several farmers in the locked down and isolated areas earn a living by growing and selling vegetables, roots and fruits. Under quarantined period, the market is suspended so the farmers can not sell the products. Though they can produce enough food for daily meals, they do not earn anything to compensate for the initial production cost.

If the locality does not have linkage base, the supply and demand will not meet, leading to food waste. Thuc proposed to establish food supply – demand linkage group amid the pandemic situation.

Chairman of the People’s Committee in Viet Yen district Nguyen Van Phuong assigned the ideas to the Farmers’ Association, Division of Agriculture and Rural Development, Fatherland Front Committee in the district for joint collaboration. The participating bodies have contacted to locations in communes to make a list of demand and source of supply to build detailed and effective plan. The management of the group will be formally assigned to individual and organization in charge.

Initially, Khang Thinh High Technology Cooperative in Tu Lan commune (Viet Yen district) which pilots the linkage model informed that the Cooperative now stores dozens of tonnes of farm produce in frozen warehouse such as squash, taro, cabbage...and various kinds of vegetables.

Many workers at the locked down area in My Dien wish to have vegetables in daily meals.

The Cooperative commits to supply quality products to customers on demand. Bagico also provides bottle waters to every isolation site and disease control station.

From the experiences and implementation method of Viet Yen district, the agriculture sector should research, review the provincial farm products to make consumption plan amid current complicated development of Covid-19 pandemic.
