Data digitalization for tourism development
Many conveniences
In October 2020, the Youth Union of Bac Giang city coordinated with the municipal Centre for Culture, Information and Sports in researching and installing two QR code scanning points at the Xuong Giang Victory special national relic site.
With just a smart phone, when scanning the QR code, after a few seconds, a series of data such as leaflets and books on Xuong Giang Temple and the "Xuong Giang Victory" cartoon will be displayed on the screen to serve tourists’ demand for looking up information about the history of the relic site and the conservation and promotion of its value.

Vu Tuan Anh, Secretary of the Bac Giang city Youth Union, said that this year, the Youth Union will install eight more QR code scanning points at some relic sites in the city, including Vinh Ninh Communal House, Tan Ninh Temple, Ke Pagoda, Thanh Pagoda and Den Pagoda. The works will help visitors save time and find it convenient to look up information, thus reducing costs compared to other traditional tourism promotion methods.
Similarly, at the Bo Da Pagoda special national relic site (Viet Yen district), on March 26, the district Youth Union partnered with the district Office of Culture and Information to install a signboard guiding the search for information on the relic site through scanning the QR code on the Zalo application. Accordingly, visitors can easily access documents and videos introducing Bo Da Pagoda, including the famous woodblocks and tower garden as well as the formation and development history of Viet Yen district.

At the Suoi Mo eco-tourism area (Luc Nam district) and the Tay Yen Tu eco-spiritual tourism area (Son Dong district), some travel agencies in the province such as Dinh Anh International Travel and Trade Co., Ltd., Tre Viet International Tourism Development Investment Company Limited, and Viet Hung Education and Tourism Joint Stock Company have set up fanpages on social networks like Facebook to promote tourism activities. The interactions between customers and service providers become convenient, easy and timely.
Data integration
Smart tourism development is considered as one of the pillars to make tourism a spearhead economic sector in both depth and width. Therefore, the application of IT in tourism promotion will help bring more tourists to Bac Giang province.
According to the province’s tourism promotion plan for the 2021-2025 period, the provincial People's Committee assigns the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Information and Communication to jointly implement some key contents such as deploying IT application, step by step digitizing database for tourism management and promotion; researching and developing applications for tourism information lookup on mobile devices; designing and developing electronic information publications to help visitors easily access information.
On the other hand, network operators are asked to install 3G, 4G, 5G broadcasting stations as well as free wifi hotspots in the central areas of districts, city, and tourist sites across the province, ensuring communications for local people and tourists.
Luu Xuan San, Director of the Bac Giang provincial Information and Tourism Promotion Center, said that in April 2021, a smart tourism portal in Bac Giang province will be completed and put into use.
The portal will integrate all data on tourism activities, making it convenient for tourists, travel businesses, and managers to look up information about tourist destinations, services, entertainment areas, restaurants and hotels in the province, as well as connect with the websites of many provinces and cities across the country.

The provincial People's Committee has agreed to grant funding at the proposal of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to the development of tourism management software which is expected to be completed and put into operation in the third quarter of this year.
According to Duong Hong Co, Deputy Director of the department, the software will serve the state management, integrate all data related to the direction and management, policies and laws of the state on tourism; programmes, schemes and plans of the authorities and state management agencies; and tourism business results.
With positive solutions, it is hoped that in the coming time, tourism digitalization will create a breakthrough that actively contributes to improving management capacity and promoting tourism activities of the province.
