Decrepit mother cares for schizophrenic son

(BGO) – This is the miserable case of Quan Thi Thin (born in 1952) in Chung hamlet, Tan Thanh commune, Lang Giang district (Bac Giang province).

Thin got married with 5 children, 4 of whom have their own small families but live in poor condition and fail to support the parent.

In 2012, her husband suffered from a heart stroke and passed away. In spite of the old age and poor health, the decrepit mother has to care for Nguyen Van Tuong (born in 1992), her youngest son with mental illness for more than 10 years.

Normally, she must lock him at home to prevent Tuong from damaging the asset of the neighbour.

Thin’s household is considered a specially difficult family in the village. The local authority has selected her case to support 20 million to build a new house but Thin refused because she can not afford the remaining cost.

Thin and her son rely all on the social allowance of 540,000 VND (23 USD) per month for the living. It was even until December 2017 when her family can approach to the electric thank to the support in installation from Lang Giang Electric Company.
