Could you share the outstanding results of digital transformation in agriculture over the past time?

Agriculture is one of the priority sectors in the national target program on digital transformation. This is a wide field with many components, limited capacity and investment.

Understanding the reality at the grassroots level, the agencies, especially the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, have actively implemented the program and made changes to support farmers and businesses in conducting digital transformation via e-commerce platforms and websites. They are ready support online checking of planting area and packing facility codes for products exported to China, online training, organization of webinars, supply-demand connection and trade promotion programs.

The above changes have helped save the state budget as well as the money of people and businesses. They have also saved time and shortened trade distances.

What lessons can be learned from the above results?

From the practical benefits of digital transformation, some experiences can be drawn from the implementation process. First of all, it is necessary to determine that digital transformation plays a very important role. This is clearly shown in the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 749/QD-TTg on approving the "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with orientation to 2030". In which, agriculture is one of eight priority sectors for digital transformation.

In order to implement digital transformation in agriculture, in addition to encouraging voluntary participation, there must be mandatory requirements. Administrative procedures and transactions between state agencies and people/enterprises should be included in the regulations, thus prompting both state officials and people/businesses to change. If we only wait for their voluntariness, it is very difficult to perform digital transformation.

To make information transparent, avoid troubles for people and businesses, and reduce costs, authorities at the grassroots level must change to create motivations for people and businesses to actively take part in digital transformation in agriculture.

How has the Vietnam Digital Agriculture Association supported localities and economic sectors to overcome the above-mentioned difficulties and challenges?

With the desire to accelerate the implementation of digital transformation in agriculture, the Vietnam Digital Agriculture Association was established. Its tasks include improving technological infrastructure for agriculture, international connection and market expansion; seeking and selecting suitable technologies for each farming and processing model in Vietnam; attracting investment for deep processing, training and development of agricultural human resources.

The association always accompanies the localities. AutoAgri Software Technology Joint Stock Company, founded by me, has joined hands with 15 provinces, cities, and the Vietnam Farmers' Association to support nearly 30,000 farming households, thousands of businesses, cooperatives and cooperative groups in digitizing databases and setting up nearly 100,000 e-diaries. 

It has also helped organize hundreds of training courses on digital transformation for economic sectors; link agricultural product chains from production to consumption; and prepare applications for planting area and packing facility codes for thousands of production establishments.

What are the solutions for Bac Giang to promote digital agriculture more strongly?

Bac Giang is among top localities nationwide in economic growth. The advantages of geographical location and the dynamism and drastic measures of the provincial leaders have helped increase locals’ incomes. Despite increasing investment attraction in industry and shrinking area of farming land, Bac Giang still has ample room to develop green agriculture.

The province has many advantages to develop a "regional agricultural economic center". This is a new model that the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development are very interested in. Promoting digital transformation, digitizing all resources, farmer households, livestock breeding and crop cultivation establishments to form a concentrated commodity production region, choosing development directions, and identifying markets and customers are very important.

Bac Giang has enough conditions for developing hi-tech agriculture, so agricultural digital transformation is a fundamental tool to improve agriculture. Without breakthroughs, it will be difficult to lift agriculture to a new height. As a child of the hometown Bac Giang, I am ready to accompany the province in implementing the agricultural digital transformation program in an active and effective way.
