Free congenital heart screening for hundreds of children

Updated: 10:02, 19/05/2025

On May 17–18, the Cardiovascular Centre of E Hospital, in collaboration with the "Tam Long Viet" (Vietnamese Compassionate Hearts) Fund of Viet Nam Television, organised a free congenital heart disease screening programme at Viet Nam–Cuba Dong Hoi Friendship Hospital.

This marks the second time the “Hearts for Children” programme has come to Quang Binh, bringing hope of healing to hundreds of underprivileged children.

Hundreds of children were screened on the morning of May 17.

Dr Phan Thao Nguyen, PhD, Deputy Director of E Hospital and Acting Director of the Cardiovascular Centre at E Hospital, stated that E Hospital has accompanied the “Hearts for Children” programme for the past 17 years, reaching out to people and children across the country. Many cases of congenital heart disease, if detected early, can be completely cured.

During the two days in Quang Binh, doctors from the Cardiovascular Centre of E Hospital will examine children and provide timely consultation for those diagnosed with congenital heart defects.

This creates an opportunity for early intervention, helping to improve the quality of life for both the children and their families.

Nguyen Viet Phuong, representative of the "Tam Long Viet" Fund under Viet Nam Television, shared that this was a special opportunity to provide heart screenings and early detection of congenital heart conditions for children aged 0 to 16 in Quang Binh.

It also offers a chance at life for children with congenital heart disease, especially those in difficult circumstances.

Over the past 17 years, the “Hearts for Children” programme has conducted more than 110 screening events, examined over 120,000 children across the country, and supported intervention or surgery for more than 7,700 children, helping them live healthier lives.

Returning to Quang Binh for the second time, “Hearts for Children” brings renewed hope of a healthy future to children with congenital heart disease.
