Good ideas in school

Updated: 15:00, 01/03/2019
(BGO) - Despite being young, in recent years, many students in schools in Bac Giang province have had useful scientific initiatives, thus spreading the scientific research movement in school.

In 2018, two fourth graders and one fifth grader of the Yen My Primary School (Lang Giang district) namely Ngo Hanh Dung, Nguyen Hong Ngoc and Trieu Van Hai developed the software "Exploring Natural and Social Subjects of Grade 3”.

Authors of the product "Exploring Natural and Social Subjects of Grade 3” of the Yen My Primary School (Lang Giang district) and guiding teachers discuss the model at the class.

The software is designed to have many useful video games that stimulate the development of small kids’ thinking like racing, coc vang tai ba (talented gold toads) and fishing ... In addition to games, children also discover scientific knowledge about wind, earth, moon and sun through the video question system "Why? Why". Currently, all Grade 3 students of the school have used this software.

Also in 2018, Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh and Hoang Van Khoi, two eighth graders of the Tam Tien Secondary School (Yen The district), designed the model "Automatic watering based on the moisture of leaves". The model consists of the main parts: electronic relays, electric circuits and spray irrigation system ... The initiative has brought in many benefits such as reducing stages and labor; saving costs and irrigation water; increasing efficiency and protect the environment.

The above are two of many useful models and products researched, manufactured, and applied by students. According to the data of the provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, in two years (2017 and 2018), the whole province had 846 models and products participating in the provincial competition, with most inventors being secondary and high school students.

Many localities with a large number of small-age authors participating in the competition and winning prizes are Bac Giang city and the districts of Hiep Hoa, Lang Giang and Tan Yen ... Their models and initiatives mostly arose during the learning and working process and daily life.

A survey conducted in Hiep Hoa district showed that each year, nearly 80 models and products competed in competitions, of which the winning models accounted for 25 percent. In the past two years alone, the district had eight initiatives of 11 to 13-year-old authors winning prizes at the provincial competition, which were highly appreciated by the Organising Board.

Pham Van Ha, head of Education and Training Division of the district said: Since 2018 after the competition was organized at the district level, the division directed the schools to disseminate it to teachers and students. When students have any good ideas and initiatives, the schools assign teachers to help and guide them to participate in the competition. "District- and provincial-level awards are included in criteria for recognition as a good student so they are excited to join", Ha said.

Surveys in many schools showed that although they are still young, students are very quick to approach the fields. The number of products participating in the provincial competition increases every year. Many models and ideas are very practical, including the "Wind power generator" model by Tran Ngoc Van Anh and Nguyen Thi Hanh from the Dong Lo High School No. 2 (Hiep Hoa district); the “insecticides” of Bach Anh Vu, Nguyen Phuong Nhi and Quach Do Hai Phuong from the Phi Mo High School (Lang Giang district); the smart lighting system powered by solar energy by Lai Duy Hai from the Neo town Secondary School (Yen Dung district)...

According to Nguyen Hong Son, Vice Chairman of the provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations, for the movement to develop strongly, in the coming time, in addition to promoting dissemination, the union will strengthen coordination with schools such as the Vietnamese - Korean Technology Vocational College and the Industrial Technique College to introduce experienced lecturers to help students make their products more feasible.

Box: Informatics, automation, mechanics and environment are very difficult fields but many students are eager to study these fields with unique products and models. However, because of young age, they have certain limitations in terms of knowledge, experience and finance ... Therefore, the guiding role of teachers is very important," said Nguyen Hong Son, Vice Chairman of the provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations.
