HCM City to host 10th Asian carom billiards championship
The one-cushion carom event will bring together 16 players competing in the form of direct knockout, with the overall champion receiving US$2,000. Last year, Vietnam dominated the discipline making an all-Vietnamese semifinals before Ngo Dinh Nai took the top honour.

The three-cushion carom division gathers 32 cueists in a round robin tournament in eight groups, with the top three performers from each group qualifying for the next round. A stake of US$4,000 will be awarded to the title winner.
Vietnamese players settled for the top-three spots in the three-cushion category in the RoK two years ago, while the 2018 tournament in HCM City saw the dominance of RoK cueists, as they claimed all the four tickets to the semifinals, with world no. 3 Cho Jae-ho named the gold medalist.
This year, Vietnam will be represented by seven players in the one-cushion event and 12 players in the three-cushion division, including most of the country’s outstanding faces, such as Tran Quyet Chien, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen, Ngo Dinh Nai, Ma Minh Cam and Duong Anh Vu.
Vietnamese cueists are strong in the one-cushion carom event, but in the three-cushion category, they are expected to face fierce competition from the RoK players. Success in the Asian championship will be a big source of motivation for the Vietnamese players when they head into the 2019 3-Cushion Carom World Cup, to be hosted in HCM City later next month.
