High-quality vocational training: Increasing skills, meeting market demand

Updated: 17:13, 22/07/2022
(BGO) - Recently, many enterprises in Bac Giang province, when expanding their production scale, applying technology, and operating modern production lines, have faced difficulties due to the lack of high-quality labor. Out of 175,000 workers working in local industrial parks, 21% have been trained with diplomas and certificates.

On-demand training

According to Nguyen Xuan Ngoc, deputy head of the Management Board of provincial Industrial Parks, many businesses require workers who have undergone intensive training in a specialized field, meeting the strict requirements of professional skills.

Currently, in the province, about 80 enterprises are continuously recruiting skilled human resources in such fields as precision engineering, automation, electronic microchip production, food processing, chemicals-pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. They account for about 70-80% of the total 4,000 laborers to be recruited monthly to work in local industrial zones.

Vocational schools in the province have flexibly innovated training programmes to meet the needs of enterprises. Nguyen Nhat Hong, Deputy Director of the Human Resources Development Center of the Vietnam - Korea Technology Vocational College, said that in addition to training according to the regular curriculum, the school’s faculties also equip students with additional skills as required by each enterprise so that when they are recruited, they can work immediately, especially for positions that require high skills.

Grasping the needs of the labor market, vocational schools have focused on training a number of key occupations in the direction of increasing autonomy, meeting market demand and increasing investment in modern equipment and machinery for practicing.

Recently, the Vietnam-Korea Technology Vocational College and the Bac Giang College of Industrial Techniques have synchronously invested in modern equipment for vocational training up to ASEAN standards. The Bac Giang Mountain College poured tens of billions of VND into installing a system of smart practice rooms connecting computers with electrical and electronic equipment to serve teaching of industrial sewing, automotive technology and welding subjects. All faculties have high-quality training programmes with more than 30% of training time at enterprises and about 50% of the curriculum for practicing.

Promoting linkage and coordination in training

The labor market is currently attaching importance to the skills and working efficiency of workers. The reputation of a vocational training institution is assessed through the rate of graduates obtaining a job. The Bac Giang College of Industrial Techniques received many requests to cooperate in recruiting students from businesses. After internships, businesses can assess the skills of students to invite them to work after graduation.

The province currently has 37 vocational education institutions, each year enrolling and training about 33,000 people. They have focused on improving the quality of practical skills training. Recruited workers have met the requirements of enterprises.

Truong Duc Huan, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs said that vocational education establishments continue to actively develop reasonable training programmes and provide in-depth training on labor relations, industrial working style and labor discipline for students.

It is forecast that in the last months of 2022, labor demand will continue to increase, especially in industries such as industrial electronics, engineering technology, fashion design, and automobile technology. In order to grasp opportunities, workers need to hone their skills and equip themselves with professional skills to meet job requirements. Enterprises should actively coordinate with vocational training institutions to order high-quality and skilled human resources.
