Updated: 17:50, 15/12/2022
(BGO) - Luc Nam is one of the top localities in Bac Giang province in the number of people working abroad under contracts. Remittances sent home by guest workers have helped many families have a better life, contributing to the building of new-style rural areas together with the Party committees, authorities, and the Fatherland Front committees at all levels.

Villa villages

Returning to Doan Tung village, Dong Phu commune, we are surprised when the old small village is now as beautiful as a street, with many high-rise buildings owning nice architecture.

Pham Quy Phuong, Secretary of the Party cell and head of the front affairs board of the village, said: "Nearly 100 out of 167 households in the village have members working abroad under the cooperation programmes. Thanks to remittances, many families have built new houses and bought beautiful cars and motorbikes, and expensive furniture. With life changes, local people have conditions to respond to the new-style rural area building movement."

Not only in Doan Tung village, there are many other labour export villages in Luc Nam such as Dong Thinh village in Tam Di commune; Luong Ban village in Dong Phu commune; and Nhieu Thi residential area in Doi Ngo township. Along with the change of each family with members being guest workers, the rural picture also becomes brighter in localities where many people are sent to work abroad under contracts.

The whole district has three communes of Bao Dai, Dong Phu, and Dong Hung meeting the criteria of advanced rural areas, all of which have a strongly developed labor export movement.

Supporting labor export to create great resources

This year, Tam Di commune has 51 more people going to work abroad, bringing the total number of guest workers to more than 1,800.

Nguyen Huu Thuan, Vice Chairman of the communal People's Committee said: “There are many people of working age in the locality. The communal People's Committee has regularly cooperated with specialized agencies and labor export enterprises to help poor, near-poor, and ethnic minority workers clearly identify this as a "channel" for effective poverty eradication because the amount of foreign currency sent home by guest workers is many times higher than the income of agricultural workers at home.

According to the district Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, despite being affected by the Covid-19 epidemic in the first half of the year, thanks to the promotion of communications and legal support, in 2022 the district provided jobs for 5,407 local workers, of whom 548 were sent to work abroad, exceeding the yearly plan by 1.5%.

Besides the traditional markets of Taiwan and Malaysia, the district People's Committee has directed communes and townships to focus on exploiting high-income markets such as the Republic of Korea and Japan. Now, about 7,200 workers from Luc Nam are working abroad, with an average monthly income of 15-35 million VND (638-1,488 USD) per person.

To reduce the rate of workers residing illegally in foreign countries, the district People's Committee has ordered the communes to step up communications and call on people to persuade their relatives to return home. New guest workers have been requested to sign a commitment to strictly abiding by the regulations on working time.

Vice Chairman of the district People's Committee Duong Cong Dinh said that in the coming time, the district will direct the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to focus on popularizing preferential policies on labor export; survey the employment needs of workers to coordinate with labor export enterprises to deliver consultations to help workers choose jobs suitable for their age and qualifications.

In addition, Regular inspections will be conducted to make labour exporters operate in accordance with regulations. Workers should carefully study information and choose licensed enterprises to avoid financial risks, while committing to strictly abiding by regulations and returning home on time.
