The event was attended by Le Anh Duong, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee (PPC), Head of the Steering Board; representative of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion; leaders of organization agencies, members of the steering board, Yen Dung district; staff, teachers, students at the school and the locals in Yen Dung district.

Addressing the ceremony, PPC Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong pressed that the provincial VBD movement has achieved prominent results for recent years. The province has received more than 100,000 blood units since 2006. The latest result was always higher than that of the previous year and exceeded the yearly target that was assigned by the Center level.

Particularly, over 19,500 blood units were donated in 2018, exceeding 137.5 percent of the plan. Currently, there is about 1.16 percent of the provincial population participating in the VBD movement.

On the occasion of the upcoming Tet holiday, there will be a high demand of blood for treatment and emergency cases; hence the annual event of VBD campaign on the Lunar New Year and Red Spring Festival helps supplement the backup blood sources during the Tet occasion.

This year, the VBD period will last till March 15, targetting at calling for at least 6,000 registers and receiving 3,000 safe blood units, accounting for 20 percent of the yearly plan in 2019. Additionally, the reserved club of blood donation should be maintained with the effective operation (50 volunteers at the provincial level and 10 volunteers at each of district and city level) so as to be ready to donate the blood all day and night on the occasion of upcoming Tet holiday.

Appealing for the whole residents to participate in the VBD, PPC Vice Chairman Le Anh Duong expressed on the deep humanitarian meaning of the “red blood”, proving for the national solidarity spirit of “The leaves protect tattered ones.”

To effectively implement the campaign, he urged the RCS of all levels, the standing agencies of the Steering Board to further boost up the communication, especially timely honor the outstanding collectives, individuals and families to raise the awareness, lure more people to join the movement while actively collaborating with the medical facilities and schools to prepare the plan and organize the receiving activity.

After the ceremony, the volunteers from the provincial VBD clubs paraded to launch the propaganda on the key roads in Canh Thuy commune, Neo town and Nham Son commune.

Staff, teachers and students at Yen Dung No.3 High school as well as locals in Yen Dung district voluntarily donate the blood.

Responding to the launching ceremony, the VBD festival attracted many staff, teachers and students in the school as well as the locals in Yen Dung district to register to donate the blood. After screening, the Organization Board received 427 safe blood units then sent to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.

Previously on January 12, the Steering Board for VBD in Bac Giang city and Youth Union in Medical Vocational School held VBD festival 2019.
