(BGO)- A lot of people think that fruit art, which requires meticulousness and skillfulness, is the work of female. However, they think different when meeting Le Quang Dat (born in 1992) at Bo Ha commune, Yen The district, Bac Giang province. The man with “golden” hands in fruit art has gained a number of prizes in Vietnam and Asia.
These days, the flower shop of Dat and his friends on Le Loi street, Bac Giang city is in a rush of customers. He is present at the shop almost all of his time but he is always busy with carving fruits and veggie for costumers’ demands or providing training. All customers are admired at the talent of this young man. With his skillful hands, Dat creates strange and exquisite dragons, phoenixes or cocks from normal watermelons, pumpkins, green papayas or carrots.

Dat was born in a farmer family at Bo Ha commune, Yen The district. When he was a child, as his mother ran a breakfast restaurant, he often made many kinds of cakes such as square cake (Chung cake), fried sticky rice cake and steamed wheat flour cake after school.
From his family’s business, this boy showed a passion for cooking. After graduating from Bo Ha senior high school in 2010-2011 academic year, Dat chose his own path while his classmates enrolled in such majors as architecture, pedagogy or construction. He passed the exam in Ha Long College of culture, art and tourism in Quang Ninh province, major of hotel’s food processing and management.
After he graduated from the college, in early 2015, Dat worked as a scullion on an international cruise at Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh province with the tasks of paring fruits and veggie for food decoration. With his skillfulness, the food products are highly appreciated for good quality and art value.
Thanks to his friends’ encouragement, Le Quang Dat took part in the Master Chef Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh city in April 2015 an won silver medal. Moreover, in July 2018, Dat attended the Asian fruit and veggie carving competition “Pattaya hospitability challenge” in Thailand. This is a prestigious annual contest organized by the Asia Fruit Carver Association luring contestants from many countries including Republic of Korea, Japan and Thailand.

Dat won the gold medal for individual category and cup for the champion team. “I had not told my parents when I took part in the contests, I just told them when I knew the results. It was really hard to manage for traveling expenses at the competitions when I had to borrow money for it”, said Dat.
In order to develop his career, in March 2018, Dat left his job in Hanoi to return Bac Giang to collaborate with his friends to open a shop with a hope to share his experience with the persons who show great love for art from natural fruits. After each competition, Dat gained more motivation to start his favorite work.
This young businessman thinks that selling each product to customers mean giving the prestige and belief. Hence, if you do not make perfect from small details, you will end in failure. Any products made by Dat’s “golden hands” such as flowers, fruit baskets or meals show the sophistication, carefulness, exquisiteness and uniqueness in each detail.
