Updated: 20:39, 13/05/2021
(BGO) - This year, lychees will be harvested amid the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic. To deal with this situation, Bac Giang continues to promote the results achieved in the lychee crop in 2020 and strengthen online connections to promote consumption with many countries and territories, creating more opportunities for lychees to be sold.

Early-ripening lychees to go abroad, more televised locations to be set up

Lychee is a typical product of the province. Bac Giang is working to make lychee meet criteria of a national product. This is one of the important agricultural products that contributes greatly to the growth of the agricultural sector, bringing in great economic efficiency.

With more than 28,000 hectares of lychees, the province's output is expected to reach 180,000 tonnes this year, of which more than 45,000 tonnes of early-ripening lychees. The early-ripening lychees will be harvested from May 20, seeing favorable conditions for sale.

The provincial People's Committee issued a plan to organize a series of events, conferences, forums and festivals to introduce tourism products and promote the consumption of key and typical agricultural products, especially lychee, in 2021. On May 26, an array of events to promote lychee consumption are expected to take place in Tan Yen district, during which relevant units will cut the ribbon to launch the first shipment of the province's lychees to the Japanese market.

Duong Thanh Tung, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the department has coordinated with districts to direct the expansion of lychee production areas for export to the Japanese market with 30 planting area codes, covering 219.4 hectares, with an estimated output of about 1,800 tonnes. The expected time for harvesting lychees for export is from May 20 to July 10.

On June 8, at the provincial Convention Center in February 3 Square (Bac Giang city), the provincial People's Committee will hold a teleconference to promote lychee consumption with domestic and foreign televised points. The event will be broadcast live on the provincial Radio-Television Station channel, as well as on a number of local television stations, fanpages, and social networks.

In addition, the conference was also televised to domestic venues including the People's Committees of Lao Cai and Lang Son provinces and 20 other points at VNPT centers of other provinces and cities across the country. Especially, this year, in addition to four locations in Guangxi province and Yunnan province (China), the provincial People's Committee will open more televised venues in Japan, Australia and Singapore...
