These days, the house of Tran Thi Tan (born in 1952), the wife of martyr Ngo Quang Tho in Tan Son 2 village, Yen Lu commune (Yen Dung district), always welcomes guests. In her young age, shortly after the wedding, her husband enlisted in the army. He visited his family several times and then died.

Currently, Tan is living with her daughter, both of them are in poor health. The old house degraded for many years but they had no money to repair it. Thanks to the support of the authorities, mass organisations, benefactors and neighbors, Tan and her daughter now have a new spacious and clean house.
Having just recovered from illness, Heroic Vietnamese Mother Nguyen Thi Thoi (born in 1924) in Han village, Huong Gian commune (Yen Dung district) smiled happily to welcome the officials of the provincial Women's Union and its Yen Dung chapter. Thoi’s husband - martyr Ha Van Can and her only son - martyr Ha Van Thiet died in the two resistance wars against French colonialists and US imperialists.
Over the past years, the provincial Women's Union has cooperated with donors to organize many activities to take care of contributors to the nation and policy beneficiary families, especially Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and relatives of martyrs. Since 2018, the women’s unions at all levels in the province have mobilized nearly 4,000 gifts for families of martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers.
Continuing the journey of gratitude
According to the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the province has more than 160,000 documented policy beneficiaries, including more than 27,300 cases receiving monthly benefits. To date, 1,368 mothers have been awarded the "Heroic Vietnamese Mother" title, of them 33 are alive. More than 5,100 martyr relatives are enjoying allowances.

Implementing the Ordinance on preferential treatment for people with meritorious services to the revolution, contributing to beautifying the nation’s tradition of "Drink water, remember the source", in recent years, the local Party committees, authorities, Fatherland Front committees, mass organizations and people have always paid attention lo realising the army rear policy.
The labour, invalids and social affairs sector has cooperated with the Party committees and authorities at all levels to review and make additional lists to ensure full benefits for contributors to the nation in general and Heroic Vietnamese Mothers and relatives of martyrs in particular.
In particular, to gradually improve the lives of policy beneficiary families, agencies at all levels, sectors, localities and businesses have joined hands to continue the journey of gratitude with meaningful deeds.
Typically, Viet Yen district has the "Silk dresses for grandmothers" movement and a programme to give savings books for war invalids, sick soldiers and martyrs' relatives. Meanwhile, Tan Yen district has assigned targets to agencies and localities to help five policy beneficiary families with difficult circumstances to renovate their houses every year.
Ha Bac Export Garment Joint Stock Company and Bac Giang Garment Joint Stock Company have donated hundreds of millions of dong each year to the "Fund of Gratitude" as well as organized visits to, presented gifts and built houses of gratitude for people who rendered services to the nation.
According to Bui Quang Phat, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, with its responsibilities, the department has actively coordinated with relevant agencies to make efforts to fully and promptly implement regimes and policies for contributors to the nation according to regulations. Every year, it advises the provincial People's Committee to launch a campaign to take care of the group on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27).
