According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province will maintain 178 planting area codes of lychee for export this year with total area of nearly 16,700 hectares (accounting for over 50 percent of the lychee growing area) including 110 codes with over 16,000 hectares for Chinese market, 37 codes for Japanese market, 15 codes for the US market and 16 codes for Thai market. Besides, there are 215 facilities meeting packaging conditions of fresh lychee for export.
Right after the end of lychee crop in 2022, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested related units to supervise pest development to ensure the product quality.

Issuing suitable planting area codes
According to an evaluation by the competent agency, lychee saw smooth consumption in 2022 with over 40 percent of the output exported to many new markets including some European and Middle East countries. However, several households granted with planting area codes do not strictly obey writing diary and replace lychee with other plants, thus the coded planting areas fail to meet the requirements.

Particularly, 29 planting area codes in the province were retreated in 2022 due to lack of growing area including 23 codes to export to China and the rest to Japan and the US. Besides, 102 packaging facilities were also revoked because of disqualification and out-of-demand.
In fact, in order to maintain the planting area codes and packaging facilities, the localities in the province have made plans for management and issuance.
In Tan Yen district, the district will propose to split the planting area codes of lychee for export to Chinese market in Phuc Hoa commune into 11 separate codes (not exceeding 100 hectares for each code) this year for proper management while proposing to issue 3 to 4 new codes in Tan Trung commune.
In Luc ngan district, the district people’s committee requested the packaging facilities to invest in completing the required items in line with maintaining 85 codes.
Specially, the district people’s committee has supported the members of Ho Dap combined service cooperative and Thanh Hai agricultural cooperative to pilot establishing origin traceability codes and crop codes for lychee produced under VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards.
“In line with granting new planting area codes, we will review and propose separating or combining suitable codes to ensure neither below 10 hectares nor above 100 hectares for each code. However, in order to satisfy export standards and avoid revoke of the planting area codes and packaging facilities, the households and groups of households need to strictly follow the growing and caring procedures and keep writing diary as regulations”, said Dang Van Tang, Head of the sub-department of plant protection.
This year, China’s re-opening commercial activities at the border gates facilitates traveling of businesspersons in both countries; thus, consumption of lychee in this market will be easier. In order to meet the requirements on quarantine of fresh farm products for Chinese market, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development planned to inspect and supervise all existing planting area codes and packaging facilities. Besides, they will review and issue 21 new planting area codes of lychee on a total area of 725 hectares to export to this market.
