2022 lychee season expands market, smooth consumption
Overcoming difficulties to bring the fruit further
This year, lychees were harvested when Covid-19 pandemic was well controlled nationwide. However, it was affected by world situation. The tight restriction for Covid-19 prevention and control from China, major importer of Vietnam farm produce caused big impacts on consuming local farm produce.

Amid the difficulties, thanks to due leadership and attention from the Government, Central Ministries, Sectors and provincial leaders as well as the activeness and creativeness of the traders and farmers, Bac Giang still achieved sweet fruit season.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, by forecasting the bad scenarios, since March, the province had actively worked with relevant ministries, sectors, Embassy of China to Vietnam and Vietnamese Trade Counselor in foreign countries to link and find solution to consume lychee at this market while regularly communicating and recommending farmers to strictly follow the regulations of lychee harvest, package in line with the requirement of each market so as to create the truth from traders and enterprises coming to buy Bac Giang lychee.
Local special fruit enjoyed prioritized zone to export to China. The lychee carriages were offered separate parking lots and allowed to move straight forward to custom clearing site instead of waiting area. Some 120 to 150 trucks carrying Bac Giang lychees passed the border gates to enter China every day, accounting for 70 percent of total trucks carrying export farm produce.
To welcome next sweet fruit season, the province needs to focus on enhancing the product quality and consider it as vital factor to produce and consume lychee. The province estimated to export over 80,000 tonnes of fresh lychee to China, nearly doubling the figure in the consumption scenario.
Respecting all markets, the province opened up and expanded several new markets for lychee. In domestic market, the fruit was mostly consumed in Hanoi, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Binh Duong, HCM city, adjacent localities in the North, Central and Midland among others. It appeared in most of the supermarkets, commercial centers, convenient stores, wholesale markets and traditional ones.
Bac Giang lychee was first ever exported officially to Thailand via Vina T&T Group. Besides, it dominated choosy markets such as 50 tonnes to the US (only 5 tonnes in 2021 season), over 100 tonnes to Japan, EU and Republic of Korea (doubling the export quantity of last year).
Appreciating quality and intensive processing
This year, the province yields totally about 190,000 tonnes of lychee with high quality and productivity. The early ripening lychee gained high output and selling price because the harvest time was separate from main lychee season. Though the late ripening lychee enjoyed a bumper harvest, the selling price was largely fluctuated, helping affirm the quality of the fruit.
One factor leading to the success of this lychee season was the activeness of the province to seize the difficulties and propose suitable solution; renovation of trade promotion by first ever launching promotion event in both direct and online formats at some 100 bridge points domestically and globally. It helped customers deeply understand about the product, production procedure and provincial message to the special fruit.

It was the first time Bac Giang had promoted lychee at Tien Giang province and organized bilateral trade promotion event in US market. However, the key factor for a successful lychee season was the product quality.
Vice Director of Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Van Phuong said the fruit quality is the important condition to affirm the value.
