Programme encourages Vietnamese people to travel domestically

Updated: 11:27, 11/05/2020
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has planned the launch of a programme entitled ‘Vietnamese people travel Vietnam’, aiming to stimulate domestic tourism demand and encourage Vietnamese to travel domestically.

The ministry asked localities, airlines, and tourism businesses to boost communication campaigns to promote local tourist attractions while working to build a safe and friendly tourism environment.

Localities are requested to take full measures on epidemic prevention and control after resuming tourist activities and outline stimulus packages with affordable prices and preferential conditions to lure visitors.

Earlier, on May 6, the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) held an online meeting with localities to restart the tourism stimulus alliance, which was scheduled to be operational in early March but was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak. This programme is now scheduled to run in May and June.

On its return, the alliance not only worked within the four provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Gia Lai and Dak Lak as planned but its operation has been expanded nationwide.

Accordingly, in the northern region, the alliance eyes to foster tourism development in north western and north eastern regions, which possess the unique cultures of ethnic groups and are home to two global geoparks in the provinces of Ha Giang and Cao Bang.

In the central region, Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An are set as the centre of the tourism stimulus programme while connection between Ho Chi Minh city and Mekong Delta region localities will be boosted in the southern region.

The six provinces of Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Kon Tum and Dak Nong are viewed as emerging destinations in the Central Highlands region.
