The beneficiaries are households, individuals and residential communities in the forest protection hamlet and group in the communes and towns. Since the beginning of this year, the district has grown some 2,300 hectares of forest and nearly 800,000 scattered trees, exceeding the set target.

The local forester force has inspected, detected and made handling records to 38 cases that violated the law on forest management and protection with the wood volume of 30.5 cubic meters for the first 9 months of this year. Hence, the local authority gave 50 cases with administrative punishment (including 12 cases from previous years), seized 51 cubic meters of wood, several criminal devices and machine as well as collect to the budget over 840 million VND (36,000 USD).

However, several problems still occur including the illegal deforestation of natural woods to grow the economic forest as well as unlawful exploitation, purchasing and transporting of forestry products. Besides, it is really hard for a loose force of the professional forest guard and protector to control a large area with many projects that are approved for mineral and tourism exploration or licensed in the special and protected forest areas.

Regarding this issue, Vice Chairman Bui Van Hanh highly spoke on the positive changes in forest protection in Son Dong district with a few violated cases and good economic values to the forest grower and protector.

On the year-end months or dry season, the local authority should take the initiative in preventing a high risk of forest fire and actively responding to any circumstances while firmly handling the violated cases and sufficiently and timely executing the policies to the forest grower, manager and protector.
