Tan Yen focuses on building commodity brand to garlic and red scallion

(BGO) – To increase the
economic value to the winter crop, Tan Yen district (Bac Giang province) has
accelerated the stages to build the commodity brand to garlic and red scallion
which are the major crops in some communes in the district.
This year, the farmers in Lien Chung commune grow over 80 hectares of garlics and red scallions, mostly in the villages of Sau, Ben, Hau and Lan Tranh including 2 sample fields of over 60 hectares.

Lien Chung garlic and red scallion normally yield over 50 – 700 kilograms per sao (old measuring unit that is equal to 360 square meters) in winter crop. Besides, farmers in Viet Lap and Que Nham communes (Tan Yen district) also develop the red scallion.
Total cultivation areas in three localities annually hit 170 – 200 hectare. With the average price of 15 – 17,000 VND per kilogram (0.65-0.73 USD), the crops help increase the income and improve the living standard to the locals.
Door open wide for farm produce export to Europe
The recent signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which is expected to take effect from early 2020, has opened the door wider for Vietnamese farm produce to make inroads into the more than 500-million people strong market.

National Office of Intellectual Property of
Vietnam (under Ministry of Science and Technology) has granted the protection
certificate for the collective brand of two farm products in Luc Nam district,
Bac Giang province including Kham Lang taro of Agricultural Service Cooperative
in Kham Lang commune and Bac Lung sweet potato in Bac Lung Agricultural Service
Cooperative.
Deal signed to boost Vietnamese farm produce exports to Singapore
Wholesaler MM Mega Market Vietnam (MMVN) and CMM Marketing Management Pte. Ltd. Singapore on August 21 inked a cooperation agreement on exporting Vietnamese farm produce to Singapore.
Bac Giang supports to develop trademark of provincial commodity farm produce
(BGO) – The People’s Committee in the northern province of
Bac Giang has issued the project to build and develop the commodity farm produce
that meet provincial level standard in the period 2019 – 2021.
