Tay ethnic girl wins first prize in national exam in Chinese
A small, beautiful student of the Tay ethnic group started to learn Chinese when she entered grade 10. With the dream of studying in a good environment with many excellent friends, after graduating from secondary school, Huyen crossed more than 100 km from Kim Bang village, An Lac commune (Son Dong) to Bac Giang city to take an entrance exam to the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted. Huyen was the only student from the upland district of Son Dong to enter the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted that academic year.

Once the district’s good student in English, Huyen's "entrance" test score was only average compared to 34 classmates. Huyen told herself that because Chinese is a new subject, all of the students are at the starting line so everyone must try.
The more she studies Chinese, the more attractive to her the subject is. To deeply understand the language she is pursuing, Huyen spent most of her time learning to speak, read and write new words, alongside the culture and development of China.
Huyen's father and mother are both primary school teachers working in the mountainous district of Son Dong, so they always encourage Huyen to study hard to rise up and set an example for her two younger siblings.
Being harder than friends with families in Bac Giang city and having to stay in the dormitory, Huyen is happy and quickly integrates into the living and studying environment away from home as she has been used to live independently since childhood.
Having a lot of time, Huyen often goes to the school library to borrow textbooks and bilingual books related to China. This is a valuable resource that helps her soon accumulate a lot of useful knowledge to improve her understanding and capacity as a basis for motivating her passion to pursue this new and challenging subject.
When at school, in the monthly exams periodically held by the school, she always led the class in Chinese. In the 11th grade, Huyen was selected by her teachers to the team of excellent students attending the national exam in Chinese. However, in that exam, she did not get enough marks to win a prize. That was the motivation for the student passionate about Chinese to try her best in this year's exam with outstanding achievements.
Nguyen Thi Hien, a teacher in charge of the team attending the national exam in Chinese of the Bac Giang High School for the Gifted, said: "Huyen is a student with capacity to learn foreign languages. She not only learns foreign languages, but also tries to study and expand her understanding of the history, culture and society of China, so she has obtained a huge volume of knowledge. Her vocabulary has increased in just a short time because this student is very diligent in reading bilingual books to study the Chinese culture".

In 2021, Huyen won the second prize at the 14th "Chinese Bridge" contest for high school students in Vietnam organized annually by the Ministry of Education and Training and the Chinese Embassy.
Not only studying Chinese well, Huyen is also good at all subjects. She always ranks first in her class in the average score of all subjects. The small schoolgirl is also an exemplary class monitor who actively participates in the school's movement activities. In many exchange programmes, Huyen was chosen as the host. She is also the art nucleus of the school who is loved and trusted by teachers and classmates.
With the first prize in this year's national exam for excellent students, Huyen is eligible for admission to a number of universities in the country, but she is "hunting" for a full scholarship from the Chinese Government to study abroad.
