Updated: 07:53, 18/01/2022
The 2022 Tet Viet (Vietnamese Tet) Festival kicked off at Youth Cultural House in Ho Chi Minh City on January 16, as an annual event to celebrate the lunar New Year festival (Tet) of the Vietnamese people.

Co-organised by the municipal Tourism Department and the Vietnam Cuisine Culture Association (VCCA), the festival aims to honour traditional practices, cultural values, and customs, thus educating patriotism and national pride among the public.

It also seeks to advertise Ho Chi Minh City as a lively, youthful, open and inspiring destination to visitors, contributing to recovering the city’s hospitality sector, which has been seriously affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This year’s 14-day festival includes a tourism fair, an online shopping fair at https://tetviet.visithcmc.vn, a photo contest, assorted art programmes, and cuisine events.

In her opening speech, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Phan Thi Thang said that the festival took place during a time when Ho Chi Minh City was recently assessed as a “green zone” (safe zone of Covid-19) and the city is taking measures to safely and flexibly adapt to the pandemic.

She expressed her belief that the festival will help to preserve and promote traditional cultural values, while meeting the entertainment demand for local residents, on the threshold of the Lunar New Year festival.
