Thousands of locals and visitors made their way to the Hanoi cuisine festival 2018, which opened on October 11 at Thong Nhat Park, to enjoy a wide range of traditional Hanoi dishes.

The five-day event features renowned staples like banh cuon Thanh Tri (Thanh Tri steamed rolled pancake), com Me Tri and Phu Do (Me Tri and Phu Do young sticky rice), pho (noodle soup) and gio cha Uoc Le (Uoc Le steamed pork paste and deep-fried cinnamon paste), among others.

A special area aims to introduce Hanoi cuisine made by artisans and excellent chefs. Visitors to the festival can also join traditional games and cultural performances.
The event, the first of its kind, aims to popularise the art of Hanoi cuisine, helping give a deep insight into Hanoi’s traditional values.
According to To Van Dong, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, 81 local dishes were available. The cuisine festival is expected to contribute to promote Hanoi’s intangible cultural heritage and preserve cultural values.
Active supervising and ensuring food hygiene safety
