Thu Mai wins second stage of Tour of Zhoushan Island II

Vietnamese cyclist Nguyen Thi Thu Mai has emerged victorious in the second stage of the Tour of Zhoushan Island II which took place in China on May 23.

Cyclist Thu Mai faced challenges from two strong rivals in the form of the riders from Italy and New Zealand but was ultimately able to come out on top. The second, third and fourth places went to Annamarie of New Zealand, Lisa Morzentti of Italy, and Sun Jiaiun of China.

The route for the second stage ran for a total of 84km and saw 15 teams competing.

In the first stage of the Tour of Zhoushan Island II, the two cyclists from the Mekong Delta province of An Giang, Nguyen Thi Thu Mai and Nguyen Thi Thi, ranked 12th and 16th, respectively. Whilst Sun Jiaiun of China had led the stage.

Two days ago, Nguyen Thi That of Vietnam was the winner of the first stage of the Tour of Zhoushan Island I in China. She finished the 85.35km course first ahead of Arianna Fidanza and Lisa Morzenti, both of Italy.

The six-strong Vietnamese women’s cycling team made is up of Nguyen Thi That, Phan Thi Lieu, Nguyen Thi Thi, Tran Tuyet Nuong, Nguyen Thi Thu Mai, and Kim Ngan, and they won the title for the best team on May 21.
