Compared to 2022, the quality of this year's athletes is better with many young and promising faces who have competed in a number of district-level tournaments such as Pham Hoai Thuong (born in 2009), Vu Van Thang (2008) and Duong Thi Huong (2009). They also won high results in the Bac Giang Newspaper Run 2022.
Deputy Director of the district Center for Culture, Information and Sports Dao Thi Mo said that in order to select excellent runners from communes, townships and schools, on February 12, Lang Giang district organized its traditional running tournament in 2023. The center cooperated with relevant units to gather coaches and athletes; and building training plans. Attending the 39 seasons, the Lang Giang delegation has won the first prize 37 times. This year, it aims to defence its championship.
At the Bac Giang provincial Sports Hall, in recent days, in late afternoon on weekdays (including Saturdays and Sundays), the running team of the provincial Public Security Agency has been busy practicing. The agency selected 60 typical runners, including seven reserve ones.
Most athletes participating in the tournament for the first time are from 21 to 36 years old, with youth union members as the core.
After a two-year hiatus due to Covid-19 and one year with reduced competition events, the 40th Bac Giang Newspapers Run will open on the morning of March 26 at Square 3/2 in Bac Giang city. The tournament is jointly organized by Bac Giang Newspaper, the provincial Youth Union, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Department of Education and Training.
According to the tournament rules, this year, each district and city send four teams to compete in men’s champion, women’s champion, young men’s team and young women’s team, with four runners registered for each. In the champion category, men will run a distance of 6 km and women 3 km. Meanwhile in the races for youth, men will run 4.5 km and women 2.5 km.
In the races for secondary school students, each district-level education and training division can appoint one male team and one female team.

The collective running race (53 people per unit) is for runners from secondary and high schools, vocational schools, colleges, universities, the Provincial Public Security Agency and the provincial Military Command and the health clubs of Bac Giang city.
This year, all districts and cities have plans to practice early. Many athletes who have been attending the tournament for 10-20 years still enthusiastically register to compete in this year’s event, contributing to spreading the love of sport among all classes of people.
The year's event is expected to attract more than 2,000 runners. The organizers will arrange more than 30 referees at the starting points, on the running tracks and at the finish lines. They have completed surveying the running tracks and made careful plans to ensure security and order, traffic safety and health. With careful preparation, the event promises to bring many interesting things and make a good impression on sports lovers.
