US supports “Green Index” initiative to promote green business in Vietnam
A Memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the Green Index was jointly signed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), and Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam (SPV) on November 23.

The Green Index will evaluate and rank environment quality in 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam through the perspective of enterprises, learning about enterprises’ attitude towards the environment as well as their readiness to apply environmentally friendly technology.
The tripartite cooperation programme also aims to make Green Index a useful tool to provide timely information for provinces and cities in policy making and promoting environmentally friendly business ecosystems.
The index is scheduled to be integrated with the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) survey conducted by VCCI with the support of USAID.
US Vice President Kamala Harris announced that USAID would support the Green Index initiative to promote the private sector acting in favour of the environment during her visit to Vietnam in August.
“The historic agreements struck at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) to accelerate cooperation on climate action underscored the importance of collective action to preserve and protect our environment. This new partnership brings us one step closer to elevating greater environmental awareness and driving greater sustainability to benefit Vietnam's citizens and economy,” said USAID Vietnam Mission Director Ann Marie Yastishock.
