Viet Nam becomes 11th largest supplier of processed produce to the US
The export of processed fruit and vegetable products saw a marked increase in the first quarter of 2025, even as Viet Nam’s overall fruit and vegetable export turnover dropped by 13.2% compared to the same period in 2024, according to the Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association.
Specifically, data from the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) shows that exports of processed products grew by 20% year-on-year, reaching 345.4 million USD. Notably, exports of products made from coconut, almond, and pineapple surged significantly.

Vietnamese passion fruit is currently being increasingly processed for export to the US and the EU. |
In the US market, Viet Nam ranked as the 11th largest supplier of vegetables, flowers, roots, fruits, and processed products to the US in the first two months of 2025, reaching 122.4 million USD, an increase of 57.7% compared to the same period in 2024. Vietnam’s share of this segment in the total US import value stood at 1.0%, up from 0.7% in the first two months of 2024.
The Viet Nam Fruit and Vegetable Association stated that businesses are currently accelerating the adoption of science and technology to boost exports of deeply processed products due to rising global demand.
Moreover, for markets like the US and the European Union, exporting deeply processed fruits and vegetables also helps mitigate risks during the transportation of fresh produce, given the significant geographical distance.
Although the growth rate of processed fruit and vegetable exports is slower than that of fresh produce, they offer higher added value and greater price stability compared to other product types.
Currently, Viet Nam’s output of deeply processed fruit and vegetable products remains low, even though the volume of fresh harvests is quite large.
In 2024, of the total 7.12 billion USD in general fruit and vegetable exports, processed products only accounted for slightly over 1 billion USD.
