Bac Giang – Under the theme “Vietnamese workers pioneer into new era,” the trade unions at all levels in the northern province of Bac Giang have launched activities focusing on grassroots engagement and improving worker welfare so as to boost morale and productivity.
Meaningful, engaging activities
In Hiep Hoa district, the local labor federation coordinated with authorities to organize practical initiatives. Typically, the trade union at Ha Phong Garment Export JSC in Doan Bai commune hosted “Union meal – thank you, laborers” event.

Around 7,800 workers received upgraded meals valued at 50,000 VND (2.17 USD) for each, up 30,000 VND from regular meals. The menu featured nutritious items like boiled chicken, pork sausage, cabbage, rice, bone broth, fruit and soft drinks.
Vu Thi Thanh Ha, Chairwoman of the company union, said: “A highlight this year was the image of all workers in red star T-shirts, showcasing patriotism, solidarity and national pride – creating a vibrant and respectful atmosphere.”
Across many enterprises, grassroots unions organized similar efforts. In Tan Yen district, each union was encouraged to host at least one activity.
So far, 39 unions involving over 8,000 workers have registered programs, including commendations for outstanding workers and support for those facing housing or health difficulties.
Unions in industrial parks promoted legal awareness, health consultations, cultural and sports events. At Luxshare-ICT Co. Ltd in Van Trung and Quang Chau industrial parks, the union gave 100,000 VND raincoats to 44,500 workers.
Legal and health education reached over 10,000 workers. Sports competitions such as football, tug-of-war and badminton featured prizes worth 200 million VND.
Tran Viet Anh, a worker, shared: “After long workdays, we appreciate these fun, engaging events. They help reduce stress and increase our sense of belonging to the company”.
Where there are difficulties, there are unions
Since 2012, May has been designated Workers’ Month by the Party Central Secretariat. This is a time for businesses, especially trade unions to support workers with focused initiatives.

At the launch event on April 24, Bac Giang provincial Federation of Labor allocated 235 million VND from the union shelter fund to build or repair homes for seven workers.
Beyond funding, unions helped with construction labor and materials. Bui Thi Anh, a worker from Newwing Interconnect Technology in Van Trung industrial park said: “My husband is ill, our kids are small and we’ve struggled for years. I never dreamed of a proper house. Thanks to union support, I’m motivated to work harder for my family.”
Anh received 40 million VND from the shelter fund and 5 million VND from her company union; the rest came from family and friends.
Additionally, 400 support packages totaling nearly 300 million VND were distributed to workers in need.
Unions also continued legal education, especially in foreign-invested enterprises, and pushed for new union establishments. Since early this year, 16 new grassroots unions with nearly 1,000 members have been formed.
Nguyen Van Canh, Chairman of provincial Federation of Labor, said this year’s activities also tied into the emulation congress, recognizing outstanding workers and encouraging long-term commitment.
He emphasized the need for grassroots unions to innovate and attract more workers, promoting productive and creative work.
