Updated: 15:08, 01/06/2019
Measures to promote the export and import of agricultural products, fruit and seafood between Vietnam and China were discussed at a conference held in Lao Cai city on May 31.

The event was held by the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (under the Ministry of Industry and Trade) in collaboration with the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Industry and Trade and the Department of Commercial Affairs of Honghe County (Yunnan, China). It attracted the participation of 176 Vietnamese enterprises and over 70 Chinese ones.

The conference discusses measures to promote the import and export of agricultural products, fruit and seafood between Vietnam and China, especially Yunnan province.

With the advantage of convenient transportation, Lao Cai province is considered a bridge to connect and promote trade and export goods to the market in Yunnan province and southwestern China.

At the conference, the two sides introduced the market demand and regulations of each other on the import and export of agricultural and aquatic products. At the same time, enterprises of the two countries made direct contact under commodity groups and sought partners for business cooperation.

Each locality and enterprise at the event was also offered a free booth to display and introduce their typical products.

This was a good opportunity for domestic and foreign agencies and enterprises to grasp information on the mechanisms for import and export policies in both Vietnam and China, thus creating favourable conditions for domestic localities and enterprises to boost exports to China.

Booths introduce Vietnamese agricultural products to the Chinese market.

To facilitate the import and export of agro-forestry and aquatic products, Lao Cai committed to requesting its functional forces to issue certificates of origin of goods at the border gates and declare e-customs and pre-registration of quarantine records in order to shorten clearance time for goods and reduce costs for enterprises on both sides.

China’s Yunnan provincial government also pledged to create optimal conditions for the import of agricultural products, fruit and seafood into China through border gates in Lao Cai, while annually organising the Hekou - Lao Cai Border Trade Fair, speeding up the construction of a cross-border cooperation area to facilitate the trade of goods with Vietnam, and building the maximum incentive mechanism for customs clearance and transportation of import and export of agricultural products, fruit and aquatic products between localities of Vietnam and Yunnan.
