Vietnamese pop star to mark silver jubilee with US concert

Updated: 10:25, 19/02/2019
Pop singer Thanh Thao is organizing a U.S. live show to mark the 25th anniversary of her singing career.

The March 10 show, set to last 4 hours featuring 36 songs, will be held at the City National Grove of Anaheim in California.

Thanh Thao said she was organizing the concert to show her appreciation of fans in the U.S. "Throughout the 25 years, I have had a lot of live shows in Vietnam," Thao said. "This time I want to show appreciation for the audience in the U.S, where I have performed for 12 years and received a lot of love, but have held no grand show there."

The concert program will have four chapters including bolero (Vietnamese romantic songs), ballad, dance and a part for audience appreciation. It will have old songs from her early days, love songs about her love, a saxophone artist, an electronic music segment with modern and vibrant EDM sound, and songs that express gratitude for her present life with her small family.

Thao said holding a music show in the U.S. was many times more expensive than in Vietnam. Stage, sound and lighting costs top $100,000, apart from payments for stage design, singers and dancers.

Up to now, Thanh Thao has invested $200,000 in the upcoming show.

Thao also plans to hold a similar concert on April 13 in Florida, and later this year, a tour of the U.S., before returning to Vietnam.

Thanh Thao, born in 1977, sings in different music genres including ballad, dance and pop. Her famous hits include "Chang va Nang" (He and she), and "Bup Be Biet Yeu" (The doll knows what is love.)
