Warm zero-cost trips for migrant workers

Updated: 16:47, 22/01/2025

BAC GIANG - In the last days of the year, trade unions at all levels in Bac Giang province are busy preparing gifts to take care of union members and workers in difficult circumstances, including zero cost trips to bring workers reunite with their families that are always awaited by migrant workers. It is not only material support but also sharing and spiritual encouragement for them to continue working and sticking with businesses in Bac Giang.

Hoang Thi Thanh (born in 1987), from Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province, has been working in Bac Giang for more than 10 years. She currently works for Newwing Interconnect Technology Co., Ltd. (Bac Giang) in Van Trung Industrial Park with an average monthly income of more than 9 million VND.

For many years, Hoang Thi Thanh's family from Huong Son district (Ha Tinh) has been supported to return home to celebrate Tet on the union's charity bus.

Married to a man from the same hometown, both of whom are workers. The couple rents a room near the company and were very frugal to be able to save about 6 million VND per month to send to her grandparents in the countryside to take care of their two school-age children.

Because their hometown is far away, every time the traditional Tet holiday comes, even though they really want to, Thanh and her husband have to carefully calculate whether to return home or stay.

“Sharing the difficulties with migrant workers, since 2019, every year the trade union has paid due attention to caring and giving us as well as many other workers free buses to return home to reunite with our families. We save some money to buy Tet gifts for our relatives”.

Currently, the companies in the industrial parks of Bac Giang province employ about 90,000 workers from other provinces, including those from distant provinces such as Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Cao Bang.

According to Le Duc Tho, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Federation of Labor, struggling all year round with worries about jobs and income, a ticket home to reunite with family during Tet is also something to consider for workers (each ticket costs from 200-300,000 VND, depending on the distance). Because that amount of money can buy gifts, new clothes, books to send to grandparents.

Representatives of the Hosiden Vietnam Company Limited's Trade Union present bus tickets to migrant workers to return home for Tet.

Therefore, the charity trip for them on this occasion, although the material value is not large, is the attention and sharing of the trade union, helping bring spring to thousands of union members' families and workers from far away places.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, as planned on January 25 (of lunar December 26), the organizing committee will arrange 16 bus trips (3 more trips than last year) to pick up nearly 700 workers in the provinces: Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Hoa Binh, Ha Giang... to return home for Tet celebration with their families. All support costs are covered by the operating budget of the Trade Union of the provincial industrial parks.

In addition, some enterprises such as: GU Vina Co., Ltd. (Dinh Tram Industrial Park); Hosiden Vietnam Co., Ltd., Samkwang Vina Co., Ltd. (Quang Chau Industrial Park)... also organize buses or support bus tickets for migrant workers to return home in time for Tet together with additional spring gifts for workers in difficult circumstances.
