Yen The implements OCOP programme: Diversifying products, improving value
Many new products
Yen The district boasts potential to develop products from agricultural production with well-known brands such as: Yen The hill chicken, Ven village tea and Thao Xuyen clean tea. After more than a year of implementing the OCOP Programme, Yen The has directed and encouraged the establishment of many cooperatives, as well as persuaded people to produce a variety of products.

Giap Quy Cuong, Director of the Yen The Green Agriculture Cooperative, said that responding to the district OCOP Programme, in addition to two traditional products namely live chicken and slaughtered chicken, the cooperative has put on sale three new products including chicken paste, chicken patty and vacuum bagged chicken.
Despite modest output (over 200kg per week for each), with good quality and beautiful packaging, these products have been accepted by consumers and penetrated deeply into the markets of Bac Giang, Hanoi, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong.
Although the Thien Tam Yen The Pharmaceutical Cooperative was just established in June, its three glue products from celastrus hindsii, solanum trilobatum and polyscias fruticosa also received warm response from consumers.
Pham Van Thien, Director of the cooperative, said celastrus hindsii, solanum trilobatum and polyscias fruticosa are all precious medicinal plants with their usage passed down by his father.
“In early 2019, I established the cooperative, expanded material growing areas, installed production lines and initially registered for IP protection of two brands: celastrus hindsii glue and solanum trilobatum glue,” Thien said. In the coming time, the cooperative plans to produce other high-quality glue products made of longjack, flagellum and yellow tea to serve the market.
Developing material areas
This year, Yen The has seven products participating in the district OCOP Programme, namely chicken paste, vacuum bagged chicken, Thien Loc solanum trilobatum tea, Ven village green tea, Loc Son corn wine, Agrigiang grapefruit and GS clean chicken. Five products expected to be present in the provincial OCOP Programme are chicken paste, vacuum bagged chicken, Thien Loc solanum trilobatum tea, Ven village green tea and Loc Son corn wine.

Four potential products include herbal glue (celastrus hindsii, solanum trilobatum and polyscias fruticosa glue), wild flower honey, vacuum bagged goat meat, and peanut candy.
According to the Yen The Division of Agriculture and Rural Development, the above results were attained as in the beginning of the year, the district devised plans to mobilize social resources to take synchronous measures to deploy the OCOP Programme in localities.
In order to implement the OCOP Programme effectively, Yen The has consolidated the programme implementation organization system from the district-level Steering Committee to the commune-level standing agencies and steering committees; improved the management skills for producers and managerial staff implementing the OCOP Programme at all levels.
The district has supported the programme through trade promotion and integration of capital sources to develop strong products of the district; assisted household groups, production groups and cooperatives in upgrading, completing and expanding facilities. In addition, the district has also listened to and followed the opinions of experts in the field of OCOP product development to perfect local products.
According to Nguyen Van Dong, head of the district Division of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the coming period, based on the strengths of each locality, Yen The will have mechanisms to encourage the establishment of cooperatives in association with the planning of material areas to create more sustainable products.
