Actively popularizing and campaigning for the implementation of people-to-people diplomacy

In 2015-2020, Bac Giang province has promoted the popularization of people-to-people relations. With the purpose of improving the effectiveness of people-to-people diplomacy and taking care of the Vietnamese community in general and the Bac Giang people in foreign countries in particular, the provincial Fatherland Front Committee signed the "Coordination programme in popularizing and campaigning for the implementation of people-to-people diplomacy in the 2015-2020 period" with related agencies and socio-political organizations which are members of the Vietnam Fatherland Front.

The popularization work has been concretized in association with the implementation of tasks of each agency and unit every year, and has been integrated in the activities of agencies and localities, in order to improve the understanding of the Party's foreign policy, especially people-to-people diplomacy.

Agencies have actively grasped, disseminated and popularized the implementation of documents of the Government and the province on missions toward Vietnamese living abroad and people-to-people relations.

Along with solidarity, peace and friendship activities, the provincial Union of Friendship Organizations - the province’s agency in charge of people-to-people diplomacy has actively organized seminars and talks on people-to-people diplomacy in association with economic, cultural, tourism and trade development.

Connecting Bac Giang community abroad

In 2015-2020, the province has paid special attention to taking care of Bac Giang people in foreign countries. It has created all favorable conditions to help overseas Vietnamese with travelling, residence and temporary residence while encouraging overseas Vietnamese to maintain close relationships with their relatives, families and homeland.

Simultaneously, the province has disseminated the Party and State policies toward overseas Vietnamese, and information on socio-economic situation; introduced potential, strengths, investment opportunities, history, culture and people of Bac Giang to investors and people at home and abroad; and promoted friendship and cooperation with foreign organizations and people, especially the Vietnamese community abroad.

Leaders of the Bac Giang provincial People's Committee held a meeting with members of the Union of Friendship Associations of Vietnamese Compatriots in Macau to grasp the situation, feelings and aspirations of overseas Vietnamese as well as provide them with information about the country and the province and encourage them to continue looking toward the homeland.

On the occasion of participating in the Bac Giang Culture and Tourism Workshop in Japan, Bac Giang province’s art troupe gave a performance of folk songs (quan ho - love duet singing, cheo - traditional Vietnamese opera and Ca tru - ceremonial singing) to overseas Vietnamese in Japan, and received their attention and appreciation.

To create a forum to connect Bac Giang people abroad, the provincial Department of Foreign Affairs has set up a fanpage "Bac Giang community abroad" on social networks to connect Bac Giang people overseas, forming a connected community looking toward the homeland. The fanpage initially attracted the attention of many citizens at home and abroad. The department has also developed and maintained the column "Protection of Bac Giang citizens abroad" on its website.

Improving the efficiency of bilateral friendship associations’ operation

Bac Giang province currently has eight provincial-level bilateral friendship associations, including: Vietnam - China; Vietnam - Laos; Vietnam - Cambodia; Vietnam - the Republic of Korea; Vietnam - Russia; Vietnam Germany; Vietnam - Italy; and Vietnam-Czech-Slovakia. Over the past years, the province has always paid attention to the consolidation and maintenance of the friendship associations’ activities.

Every year, the bilateral friendship associations coordinate with the provincial Union of Friendship Organizations in organizing many friendly exchange activities.

It can be said that through various forms and diverse and practical contents, people-to-people diplomacy has contributed positively to the socio-economic development of the province, helping to promote its image and position to international friends.

Enhancing management of foreign workers
