Bac Giang city prioritizes development of high-quality trade and services
Lack of high-quality services
Over the past years, despite obtaining fairly comprehensive developments, the trade - service - tourism growth of Bac Giang city has not been commensurate with potential. In recent years, the number of tourists, including foreigners, coming to the city has increased, at about 220,000 per year. However, high-quality service infrastructure in some aspects has not yet met the requirements, such as logistics; housing for foreign experts, workers and tourists; entertainment facilities; and culinary services.

There are few restaurants and hotels, especially the lack of high-class hotels and restaurants. So many tourists from other provinces or abroad often do not choose Bac Giang city but neighboring cities for dining and accommodation services.
Nguyen The Trong, Deputy Director of Tre Viet International Travel Company’s Bac Giang branch, said: “We regularly bring tourist delegations, especially students, from other provinces to Bac Giang city. In Bac Giang, sometimes tourists want to stop to eat, but restaurants and hotels here do not meet some requirements as well as fail to accommodate a large number of people at the same time, so we have to take them to another locality”.
Promoting investment attraction
Implementing the Resolution of the city’s 12th Party Congress, Bac Giang city has developed and issued programmes and projects to develop trade, services and tourism in the 2020-2025 period, which clearly identify shortcomings and put forth specific solutions to attract resources to develop trade and services so as to make the city deserve the central area of the province, step by step becoming a major trade center of the region.
According to Vice Chairman of the city People's Committee Nguyen Tien Dung, in this period, the city will mobilize a variety of resources for synchronously developing and perfecting the trade and service infrastructure; associate the development of trade and services with tourism; prioritize planning and creating land funds to attract investment in high-end trade, services and entertainment facilities. The city will support site clearance work and create conditions for investors to get the fastest access to land to implement their trade and services projects.
Bac Giang will advocate the development of convenience stores, smart sales and payment, and vending machines in public places; while step by step forming a night-time economic-trade-services area.
In particular, to develop cultural - spiritual - ecological tourism, the city is paying attention to investing in transport infrastructure, waste and waste water treatment systems, and a smooth communication system in tourist spots. It strives to have free wifi networks in a number of tourist sites and public entertainment areas to serve the local people and tourists by 2025.
Realising the phased plan, this year the city will urge related units and investors to implement the project to build a complex of trade-service areas and high-class hotels in the southern urban area in Tan Tien commune, an international logistics center in Song Khe commune, and a night service area in Xuong Giang ward.
Currently, in Bac Giang city, many commercial centers, hi-end apartment buildings and luxury hotels have been completed, such as AquaPack, Royal Park Bac Giang and Saigontel Central Park Bac Giang, not only creating a new look for the city but step by step meeting the needs of local residents and tourists.
At this time, the Vinhomes Joint Stock Company has completed leveling to construct a 27-storey commercial-housing building on Ngo Gia Tu street. In particular, the city is focusing on thoroughly resolving difficulties in site clearance to create conditions for investors to speed up the construction of the International Logistics Center in Song Khe commune.
According to the plan, in May 2022, its first phase will be completed and put into operation, creating jobs for about 800 workers. This will be the hub for distribution and transshipment of goods from the northern mountainous provinces to the seaports of Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city and vice versa, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.
