Bac Giang joins hands to build 90 bright-green-clean-beautiful roads

Updated: 20:55, 06/03/2020
(BGO) - On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8) and the 1980th of Trung Sisters’ Uprising, the Women's Union of Bac Giang province is implementing a special emulation campaign entitled "90 practical actions for women and children" in 2020. Nguyen Thi Lien, Chairwoman of the union, shares the goals, meanings and measures to make the emulation campaign effective.

Why did the Vietnam Women's Union choose the theme "90 practical actions for women and children"for this special emulation campaign?

In 2020, there will be many important celebrations and political events: the 90th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, 90 years of the establishment of the Vietnam Women's Union (VWU), all-level Party congresses towards the 13th National Party Congress, all-level patriotic emulation congresses towards the National Patriotic Emulation Congress, and the second year of implementing the theme “safety for women and children”.

This theme aims to create a vibrant emulation movement for women’s unions at all levels and members throughout the country to celebrate those important events.

The theme itself emphasizes the practicality of the actions for women and children. Could you give more details about this?

The number of 90 actions is just symbolic. It is a message to appeal to all levels of the women’s union and each member to do something, think and act specifically towards the 90th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Women's Union .

Not the whole country, each province or each level of the women’s union only does 90 deeds. The VWU Central Committee wants the women’s unions at all levels to choose and do many practical acts that benefit members, women, children and families. These actions are not only aimed at women and children, but also actively contribute to the fulfilment of the localities’ political duties.

As we know, the Standing Committee of the provincial Women's Union unanimously selected and launched the action: Building the "Bright-Green-Clean-Beautiful-Safe" Roads. Could you please tell us the purpose and reasons for choosing the action?

The encouragement of women to join hands in building self-managed green, clean and beautiful roads has been done for many years. But we wish that the roads, which are already green, clean and beautiful, will become brighter, more civilized and safer.

Therefore, the Standing Committee of the provincial Women’s Union discussed and agreed on this action in order to join hands with the authorities and community to build safe, civilized, bright-green-clean-beautiful villages and streets, contributing to building new-style rural and civilized urban areas.

What are the methods and ways to implement the action to meet the requirements and set objectives?

We have directed the women’s unions of districts and city to report to the local Party Committees and propose local governments support this action. Specifically, the women’s unions select road sections in hamlets and streets for the scheme with the consensus of the local authorities.

The responsibility of the women’s unions is to encourage members to plant trees and flowers, and households to install cameras (if possible). Every week, they should collect daily-life waste to sell for savings. The women’s unions mobilize donations to buy electric bulbs and wires. Electricity costs are covered by the local funds or donations by local people.

The province strives to have 90 bright-green-clean-beautiful roads by the year-end. Each district or city is tasked to build nine roads, the length of each road is 500 meters or more. The longer roads are encouraged. Once completed, the roads will be named.

Could you please tell us about other tasks along with the building of bright-green-clean-beautiful-safe roads?

The provincial Women’s Union suggested that each district or city selects and launches other actions such as building more houses for poor members; making more flower streets; supporting poor women, children and those with difficult circumstances; and other practical actions serving the cause of new-style rural area building.

On the occasion of International Women's Day (March 8) this year, the provincial Women's Union has directed the whole system of its chapters to carry out the second action associated with the COVID-19 prevention and control. Accordingly, the women’s unions save money for organizing International Women's Day celebrating activities to buy products such as soap, bactericidal solution, masks for students to prevent and fight the disease.

Thank you very much!
