Becoming fit and healthy thanks to dancesport

Updated: 07:43, 20/10/2018
(BGO) - In recent several years, the number of members of the Bac Giang provincial Women’s Union taking part in dancesport has been increasing. Not only in Bac Giang city, but this artistic sport also spreads to many other localities across the province such as Hiep Hoa, Yen The and Tan Yen. It helps women improve their health, contributing to gathering members of women’s union.

Although it was established over a year, the Hiep Hoa Women’s Dancesport Club has become a popular destination for nearly 70 women. Do Thi Man, head of the club, said she used to do exercise with spontaneous groups or on the sidewalks in the early morning.

Members of Huyen Quang Dancesport Club in Hoang Van Thu ward (Bac Giang city) are practising.

However, they did not practice regularly. There are many yoga centers in the locality, but the cost is expensive and not everyone can afford it. "We set up the dancesport club to help women have a space for practice, thereby creating cohesion," she said.

Putting aside the daily work, the members of the club meet at the yard of the cultural house of Thang township (Hiep Hoa district) at 5am and 8pm every day. In the melodies that are sometimes vibrant and sometimes light and deep, the ladies excitedly step in the Chachacha, Tango, Rumba and Valse dances... Currently, the members of the club can confidently perform dozens of dances in many exchanges and cultural and art programmes at the district and provincial levels.

Dancesport is for both women and men, and if they practice regularly, their bodies will be well balanced, firm and agile. Previously, the club attracted only women members, but now dozens of its members are men aged 60-70.

Talking about the benefits of this sport, Ngo Thi Uyen, Chairwoman of the Hiep Hoa district Women's Union, said: "The club has been contributing to improving locals’ cultural and spiritual lives. In the coming time, the union will have mechanisms to support its chapters in establishing dancesport, cultural and art clubs in order to create a vibrant living environment and attract women to the union’s activities”.

As a place where the dancesport movement started, Bac Giang city is now leading the province in terms of the number of dancesport practisers. The sport soon entered and is flourishing in the city as this is the central area, with due attention paid to locals’ spiritual life. At present, hundreds of women’s union members in the city take part in dancesport, mainly in Hoang Van Thu, Tran Nguyen Han, Tran Phu and Ngo Quyen wards and Dinh Tri commune.

Not only in Bac Giang city or Hiep Hoa district, but the dancesport movement has also become a spiritual food for many females in Yen The, Tan Yen and Viet Yen districts. After hard working days, they have the opportunity to meet, exchange and practice to improve their health.

Hiep Hoa Women's Dancesport Club performs in a programme organized by the district Women's Union.

The province has 11 women's dancesport clubs and dozens of others joined by women’s union members. The clubs attract hundreds of members. The provincial Women’s Union has coordinated with the Culture and Sports Division of the districts and city in organizing tournaments and introducing the clubs to exchange programmes to raise their members’ skills. Particularly, some localities have also provided financial support and created conditions in terms of practicing rooms for women.

According to Nguyen Thi Lien, Chairwoman of the provincial Women's Union, the model of dancesport clubs and sports and physical training clubs, in general, has always received due attention from the unions at all levels. This activity is highly regarded for its ability to attract and gather members.

Dancing is an artistic sport that helps women improve their health and gain spiritual comfort. Therefore, it is not only present in wards and communes in Bac Giang city but also in some other localities. In the coming time, the union will continue to instruct its chapters at a grassroots level to organize more exchange activities and replicate this model in capable units.
