Cooperatives - key factor in development of rural industries
Ranking 7th nationwide in OCOP products
Since the implementation of the OCOP Programme, Bac Giang has achieved many outstanding results. Currently, the province has 155 OCOP products, including 36 4-star and 119 3-star ones, ranking itself second in the northern mountainous region (after Ha Giang) and 7th in the whole country in terms of number of OCOP products, contributing to improving people's lives and giving a facelift to local rural areas.

Accordingly, agricultural cooperatives play an important role as the main factor in the production and development of OCOP products. The focus of the OCOP Programme is to develop agricultural, non-agricultural products and services with advantages in each locality, implemented by private and collective economic sectors, with cooperatives being the core.
A few years ago, the majority of OCOP products were developed by households, but now more than 80 percent of participants are enterprises and cooperatives. By the end of 2021, 127 out of 155 products meeting OCOP standards in the province are from 86 cooperatives. Typically, Yen Dung Clean Vegetables Cooperative and Hong Xuan Agricultural Production and General Services Trading Cooperative (Luc Ngan) have three OCOP products each; while Yen The Green Agriculture Cooperative has two.
From the identification of the important role of cooperative groups and cooperatives in the production and sale of OCOP products, over the past time, the farmers’ unions at all levels have implemented many solutions to continue to replicate and promote the efficiency of cooperative groups and cooperatives.
After implementing the projects, every year, the farmers’ unions at all levels have encouraged and guided the establishment of 40-50 cooperative groups and 20-25 cooperatives. Currently, the total numbers of cooperative groups and cooperatives are 260 and 80, respectively. In addition to increase the number, the farmers’ unions have supported cooperative groups and cooperatives to improve their capacity in building business plans, production management, developing OCOP products, branding, traceability stamps and promoting products...
Improving product quality
Although the role of cooperatives in the production and sale of OCOP products has been gradually confirmed, in fact, there are few agricultural cooperatives in the locality, with low operational efficiency.

In order to continue to promote the role of and cooperatives in the production and consumption of OCOP products in the province in the coming time, contributing to fulfilling the goals of having 25-30 more products rated 3 stars or more and upgrading stars for 5-10 products in 2022.
Bac Giang also strives to develop at least one product reaching 5 stars at the national level. To make it come true, the farmers’ unions at all levels will continue to coordinate with socio-political organizations and relevant departments and agencies to persuade members and farmers to actively participate in and establish cooperative groups and cooperatives.
It is necessary to increase training to improve management capacity of cooperative groups and cooperatives, focus on developing models of agricultural and agricultural service cooperative groups and cooperatives in association with typical rural products, key products of the province, and OCOP products. The farmers’ unions will encourage cooperative groups and cooperatives to strengthen linkages to increase production scale, creating goods and products that are competitive to meet market demand.
Cooperatives themselves also need to actively promote internal resources, form links to develop production synchronously, promote brand building, and focus on improving product quality to raise added value.
