Dong Son Secondary School nurtures creative ideas

Updated: 15:58, 20/12/2018
(BGO) - Encouraged and guided by teachers, many students at the Dong Son Secondary School in Bac Giang city have developed innovative ideas in the field of science and technology into useful models and products serving daily life.
Recently, the group of students Nguyen Quang Huy and Khong Minh Thang from Class 9C excellently won the first prize of the city-level science and technology creativity competition for secondary school pupils in the 2018-2019 academic year, with the model "Air circulation and energy recreation system."

Over the past days, under the guidance of teacher Tran Van Nghia, Huy and Thang have continued to improve the model to prepare for the provincial-level competition to be held in late December.

The duo shared that many times they saw all households use electric fans to create wind and air circulation, but they also consume much electricity, thus increasing the cost. Therefore, they had the idea of designing a model using clean and environmentally friendly materials.

Having participated in and won the third prize in the 2017-2018 city-level science and technology creativity competition, Huy and Thang have accumulated a lot of knowledge and experience, plus the guidance and instruction of the teachers in the school. Therefore, in the short time, they have researched and successfully created the "air circulation and energy recreation system".

The model consists of plastic blades, one meter of wires, a perpendicular gear and a battery ... The device can be easily dismantled and its size depends on each family. The system works by the natural wind that makes the blades move to absorb air and at the same time creates a direct current. Through the battery, the direct current will turn into an alternating current to serve life, reducing the expenditure and staying friendly to the environment.

Teacher Luong Van Vu, Principal of the Dong Son Secondary School, said that for many years, the school has always provided favorable conditions in terms of experimental infrastructure and equipment for students to practice. At the same time, the school has also established a scientific research group consisting of teachers of subjects who are ready to support students in knowledge and skills.

For students to promote creativity, teachers of subjects have always encouraged students to observe real life, pay attention to difficulties and shortcomings, and bravely put forth ideas and solutions to the problems. Participating in the playground, not only the teachers and students are free to pursue their passion for research and creativity, but the learning atmosphere in the class is also bustling.

From a school in the bottom group, the Dong Son Secondary School has gradually risen, ranking seventh among 17 secondary schools in the city in the school year 2017-2018 in the average marks of Maths, Literature and English of students who enrolled in Grade 10.

The initial success has created motivation for the school’s teachers and students to continue the emulation movement of good teaching and learning. The students become dynamic and creative and know how to apply knowledge learned from books into real life.
