These days, the people in Tien Thang commune, Yen The district and relatives of athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen are happy for the weightlifting gold medal she won at the 30 Sea Games.

Huyen was born in 1992 in a farmer family in Tien Bo village, Tien Thang commune with an older and a younger brothers. Since early childhood, she has loved sports. However, it was when she 15 years old, Huyen started practising at Yen The district martial club. Then, the coach of weightlifting team in Hanoi city selected the girl to officially follow the professional athlete career.

Though Huyen came to weightlifting quite late, thanks to the thorough instruction from the coaches and her determination to overcome the challenges, she has won several proud achievements.

Since 2012, Huyen has become the number 1 weightlifter at the weight of 48kg at the national youth championships with high professional criteria. Just one year later, she was selected to the Vietnam national team.

In 2014, the professional officers noticed Huyen after she created the brightest record at the 2014 National Sports Festival with total lifting weight of 181kg, up 5 kg comparing to the previous one.

In 2015, Huyen became the first female weightlifter of Hanoi team to win a gold medal at Asian game. In late 2015, the Yen The born girl continued bringing the glory to Vietnam weightlifting game by 2 silvers and a bronze at female’s 48kg category at the world championship held in the US. These prominent achievements helped Huyen rank sixth in the list of national outstanding athlete in 2015.

In 2016, Huyen gained the official ticket together with 22 athletes of Vietnam sports to attend Rio Olympics (Brazil). The failure at this event made Huyen practised more and more.

The long training course in foreign countries helped her increase the confidence and achievement. At the ongoing 30 Sea Games in the Philippines, Huyen gained the glory by the gold medal at 45kg category. With total lifting weight of 172kg, Huyen exceeded 3kg comparing to the result of Indonesian athlete who won gold medal at world championship.

Especially, the total lifting weight of 172kg not only helped Huyen convincingly pocket a gold medal at this Sea Games but also surpass the achievement for gold medal at female’s 45kg category at the 2019 world weightlifting championship. The achievement proved that Huyen is absolutely capable of gaining a ticket and competing for a medal at 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Anyone watching the competition on December 1 was surely moved when seeing the tear of Vietnamese weightlifter Vuong Thi Huyen for the convincing victory. It was the happy tear that Huyen also burst for her father who passed away few day ago when she was training in China for the 30th Sea Games.

Huyen’s mother passed away 7 years ago. Suppressing the pain for loosing her relative, the Yen The weightlifter spent her utmost to compete and brought the glory to the Nation and her beloved ones.

There are many high peaks for Huyen to conquer ahead, firstly the race to gain the ticket to 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Hopefully, she will continue achieve more success with her great determination and fortitude.
